The Morgue 2026

Didn’t like his politics, but compared to the batshit nutters at CNN now, he seems somewhat sane.

You’ve aged yourself if you remember having cable TV (before satellite TV) and TBS shows starting at :05 or :35 on the hour, in order to grab viewers who channel-surfed at :00 and :35 and couldn’t find anything to watch. Brilliant timing move.

I remember that! I also remember it was Superstation WTBS Channel 17, which I didn’t realize for a long time was channel 17 for every American who had cable tv.

I remember watching the Sunday morning movie, too. The first time (and like the tenth time) I watched The Ipcress File was on the Sunday morning movie on channel 17. Great movie.

And could catch National League games via the Braves and WTBS.

Murph. Horner. Chambliss. And Phil Niekro and his old man’s knuckleball. It felt like you were rooting for a nobody MLB team that needed fans, like they got no justice. Speaking of, David Justice.

Turner was right about that, that not only would Americans watch bad MLB long enough that he could sell plenty of ads, but that in fact they could become die-hard fans and make him rich. At least when there were like six cable channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, HBO, and WTBS.

Genius media guy, way ahead of his time.

My dad’s beer in the '70s (with the pull tab). RIP

It’s likely that O.J. got off because this guy got caught using the N-word.
