The narratives about Antifa thread

Go down to their national headquarters and arrest them for their crimes.

Portland’s mayor and police chief Monday vowed to pursue and punish protesters who broke windows and threw flares into the Oregon Historical Society, toppled statues of two celebrated U.S. presidents and fired gunshots into a restaurant during a downtown riot the previous night.

But the culprits may prove difficult to identify let alone capture.

After months of demonstrations punctuated by violent clashes or vandalism, many of the city’s most militant protesters remain largely elusive or unknown.

Only difficult if you selectively edit to make it appear I’m the one who said it.

I don’t see the connection between these individuals and an organization named antifa, I’m afraid.

Somebody doesn’t understand how riots work.

Let’s reflect on some facts, and on why this topic has burned out a bit, possibly a future indicator for related narratives? I believe to see the future, you have to look at the past. :brain:

WASHINGTON — (AP) — President Donald Trump portrays the hundreds of people arrested nationwide in protests against racial injustice as violent urban left-wing radicals. But an Associated Press review of thousands of pages of court documents tells a different story.

Very few of those charged appear to be affiliated with highly organized extremist groups, and many are young suburban adults from the very neighborhoods Trump vows to protect from the violence in his reelection push to win support from the suburbs.

Defense attorneys and civil rights activists are questioning why the Department of Justice has taken on cases to begin with. They say most belong in state court, where defendants typically get much lighter sentences. And they argue federal authorities appear to be cracking down on protesters in an effort to stymie demonstrations.

“It is highly unusual, and without precedent in recent American history,” said Ron Kuby, a longtime attorney who isn’t involved in the cases but has represented scores of clients over the years in protest-related incidents. “Almost all of the conduct that’s being charged is conduct that, when it occurs, is prosecuted at the state and local level.”

Of more than 300 arrested, there are about 286 defendants, others had charges dropped. Some live in cities like Portland and Seattle where local prosecutors declined to bring some protest-related charges.

Some of those facing charges undoubtedly share far-left and anti-government views. Far-right protesters also have been arrested and charged. Some defendants have driven to protests from out of state. Some have criminal records and were illegally carrying weapons. Others are accused of using the protests as an opportunity to steal or create havoc.

But many have had no previous run-ins with the law and no apparent ties to antifa, the umbrella term for leftist militant groups that Trump has said he wants to declare a terrorist organization.

I don’t think you know what the word “facts” means.

Either that, or you don’t grasp that the AP’s reputation has been in the toilet for a while now.

No apparent ties to the movement is by design.

WHY DO YOU STAY ANONYMOUS?

Antifascists that do antifascist work regularly are likely to be targeted by both the far-right and the state. Taking measures like wearing masks provides anonymity that helps us stay safe.

Also, it’s very easy for movements to be reduced to the actions of a single individual. By staying anonymous, we act as a collective, and represent that we are acting in unity and uninterested in gaining social capital from our work as antifascists.

WHAT IS BLACK BLOC/WHY DO YOU WEAR ALL BLACK?

Black bloc is a tactic where large groups of people wear all black to conceal their features. This helps us stay anonymous and demonstrate group solidarity. You can read more about black bloc here: CrimethInc. : Blocs, Black and Otherwise

There are no apparent ties to unicorns either. By unicorn design!

When will ‘black’ bloc be seen as racist?

Young suburban - I would say beforehand most here knew that most were from middle class backgrounds.
You rarely find white working class people get involved with the champagne socialists (who hate the working class serfs anyway for the most part).
Are they trying to paint a picture that Antifa and their ilk are from the ‘hood’?

Some people do unicorns, I do duck tests.

Who else isn’t surprised?

When Republicans do it.

Why would I be surprised that wackos on both sides are screwing up the US. It would be nice if enforcement was stomping out the ANTIFA/BLM riots with as much fervor.

Are you unaware that thousands of left-wing extremists burned down the Minneapolis 3rd Police Precinct on May 28th?

The article you linked to appears to somehow try to blame the destruction of the police building on one right-wing extremist.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota on Friday announced that the FBI brought charges against a member of the far-right “Boogaloo Bois” group for organizing and participating in an effort to “incite a riot” outside a Minneapolis police precinct in May amid protests against the police killing of George Floyd.

According to the legal complaint filed Monday, Ivan Harrison Hunter, a 26-year-old from Boerne, Texas, who claims to be a member of the Boogaloo Bois, communicated with fellow members in late May ahead of a planned trip to Minneapolis as police had already started clashing with protesters in the city.

The documents claim that federal agents obtained a video from the evening of May 28 showing an individual walking up to the door of the Third Precinct in Minneapolis and firing 13 rounds from “what appears to be an AK-47 style semiautomatic rifle.”

It would be nice if the DOJ focused on the alt right terrorist militias rather than demonizing people with legitimate grievances

How about the grievances of all the normal people and business affected by the rioters?

In a just world, the DoJ would care about their grievances more than those of violent repeat offenders and rapists that got Judge Dredded.

Neither is right, but this crap can’t stand.

Are you suggesting BLM supporters aren’t normal people? Just for clarification, not an accusation

People protesting in open public places like parks or pedestrian plazas are normal people. People blocking roads or access to businesses or those setting fires, threatening people who disagree with them or vandalizing are not.

It’s very easy.
