The narratives about Trump thread

You forgot an s , (predecessors plural) you know these little things can make a difference.

Am I wrong to surmise, that it always appears to be the “generous, benevolent”, Polticians in the World, whom seem to create the mess, and leave others to clean it up?

The powerful generally do what they can get away with, but only a very irresponsible citizen would insinuate that they ought to.

Or that they should be allowed to get away with much.

Speaking of not thinking things through all the way:

https://au.news.yahoo.com/trump-no-longer-moral-leader-free-world-top-142035527--spt.html

This statement, if taken at its word implies some things:

  1. That these guys consider themselves the electoral college of moral authority in the free world.

  2. That there is such a thing as the moral authority of the free world.

  3. That at one point Trump was the moral authority of the free world.

I’m guessing they’re more sincere about the first two than the last. In which case, they haven’t the foggiest notion how moral authority actually operates.

In other words: you gotta watch those verb tenses and definite articles. They betray your thinking in all sorts of ways.

I’ll concede this much: however silly the top of his head looks, he’s no Pope.

Last week they were celebrating a porn star. This week they are all about family values.

Last week: “Trump committed a (unspecified) crime, we need to impeach!”
This week: “Why wont Trump go against the law?”

Looks like Trump just came to grips with reality and ended his policy. I look forward to the next shift in narrative from Trump supporters here; it should be equally as amusing as the commentary of the last several days has been.

Uh, not much solid there. The only meat is that something of some sort is in the works, and that’s hardly news.

Teh Grauniad has no idea what’s going on, but they have to pretend or they’re all out of a job.

So to recap:

  1. It was actually happening, despite the denials in this thread.
  2. It was actually horrific, despite the denials in this thread.
  3. Trump absolutely can do something about it, despite the denials in this thread.

Don’t let facts get in the way of a ridiculous counter narrative.

This is the executive order he’s already signed:

For all the talk of faux liberal outrage and crocodile tears, it obviously takes an outcry to actually get republicans to address issues that should be addressed. Of course, now it’s up to congress. Which, let’s face it… you know…

Errrr… yes it was going on now and for two previous Presidencies…no denials that I am aware of here?

No surprise it was seemingly all rowland. Won’t actually do a little leg work because that would disrupt the little bubble that he’s created.

(b) The Secretary shall not, however, detain an alien family together when there is a concern that detention of an alien child with the child’s alien parent would pose a risk to the child’s welfare.

Uhm…

Nothing like what we’ve been seeing here. That’s a denial

Nothing to see here :slightly_smiling_face:

It all started when people became outraged at photos from 2014. In 2018.
So back in 2014 no one, even on this forum, gave a flying fuck about this issue. But now, few months away from the midterms…oh God, someone must do something about those children, why is Trump such a monster?

Number of fucks given back in the day = 0

Just to concede your overall point up front: the uproar wasn’t as loud. That being said…

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/obama-administration-placed-children-with-human-traffickers-report-says/2016/01/28/39465050-c542-11e5-9693-933a4d31bcc8_story.html?utm_term=.03d22ca85c26

I didn’t even have to search for it, these were literally in the link you posted. It’s also a completely different issue. It’s just another immigrant related scandal. Trump’s policy began in mid-May (the policy he tried to blame on a law that doesn’t exist).

The Snope article actually also points out Obama supporters back in the day played the blame game, trying to put it on Bush. So a wonderful cycle we’re in.

Please be clear: ‘whataboutism’ is ridiculous. Just because somebody else did something wrong doesn’t make the actions of another in any way, shape or form acceptable. It also doesn’t fix the issues that people are facing in the present.

You know what seems to have made all the difference in this case? ‘Faux’ liberal outrage.

Womp womp indeed.

I think it was the outrage from his own side. Well, interesting to know where the line is.
