The narratives about Trump thread

And in 2020.

Keep in mind that “waiting to vote to wipe the smug smiles off” is a far more polite way of saying that they still hunger for knocking the superior class down a peg or ten. Which is also over-polite, so.

When Biden won the election

Yeah, that too.

At least you are being honest that your politics are based purely out of class resentment. So many of modern right wing political positions make little sense until you realize they are done simply to Own The Libs. Recklessly endanger the environment by driving a gas guzzling SUV, eat an unhealthy but manly, American diet of bacon cheeseburgers instead of wimpy tofu, self-consciously throw around racist and sexist language - LOL, I triggered the Libtards! Now I get to feel all smug and superior!

Seriously, dude, have you ever listened to much right wing radio or talk shows? All they ever sneer about is how stupid Libtards are.

Most of those suburban soccer moms driving SUVs vote Democrat. This is hardly a left-right issue.

This also describes people all across the political spectrum.

FIFY…

Rarely, if ever. You ever watch Joy Reid?

The source of my distaste for Democrats comes from their abandoning the middle class in favor of identity politics about 30 years ago. This happened well before tech bros emerged as their donor class.

The recent phrase “learn to code” when turned on what remained of American manufacturing has kept the fire stoked, for sure.

“What’s that giant sucking sound?,” are you old enough to remember that phrase?

Let’s be fair, both parties have abandoned the middle class for the past half century at least. The last time we had an expanding middle class was the 1970s, or even the 1960s. The Dems give us DEI and the Repubs tax cuts for the rich. Pick your poison.

Let’s be fair and admit that Republicans, including Trump, have what remains of the middle class as a major pillar of support.

No. The middle class did very well under Reagan and through the end of the 80s. In the 90s the traditional ally of the middle class, the Democrat party, dropped them like a hot potato in search of the greener grass to be had with “demography is destiny,” aka identity politics.

I think the GOP is for tax cuts for everybody, not just the rich.

The only identity they care about is citizenship. Possibly the strongest source of their unity is disgust with the size of the Federal government. Reagan’s quip “I’m from the government and I’m here to help” still gets a nod and a chuckle out of most Republicans.

Judge tosses Trump documents case, ruling prosecutor unlawfully appointed (msn.com)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Monday dismissed the criminal case accusing Donald Trump of illegally holding onto classified documents, dealing the former president another major legal victory as the Republican seeks a return to the White House.

Florida-based U.S. District Aileen Cannon, who was nominated by Trump, ruled that Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution, was unlawfully appointed to his role and did not have the authority to bring the case.

This ruling will almost certainly be appealed.

Yes. That’s the way it works.

Jack Smith has already appealed. Anyway he has been smacked down on so many of his cases he is used to losing.

Even serial losers get the occasional lucky victory. For example, this guy won an election once (not the popular vote, tho)

Trump talks transactionally about pretty much everything, including Taiwan. And so here we are, again speculating about what could happen if he is elected again in November.

“The pivot delusion/propaganda point has returned! Sorry but Trump’s idea of unity is everyone behind him or else,” Ben-Ghiat commented on X. “He tells his own supporters that if they vote for him and die ‘it will be worth it.’ No pivoting out of that.”

Salon, bringing out the big guns. lol
