The new Bond, James Bond

Do you mean he’d be good at cunning stunts?

He looks a bit beat up in the pic below. I’d never heard of him. I’d have gone for Russel Crowe. Arsehole of the first order but he has a presence that was only matched by Connery.

How about that guy in “The Transporter.”

I don’t know anything about him but he looks like a talented laddy.

No one has mentioned Eric Bana yet. IMHO he’s the perfect combination of style and action … I think he’d be great!

teggs

Eric Bana? Oooh, as Chopper not the guy in Blackhawk down or Troy.

Yeah, I agree. He should look like he’d take a punch as well as looking at least half smart.

Brosnan was such a delicate looking James Bond. Always seemed to me like he was ready to cry when things were not going well.

is that a moley moley moley? damn, sorry, wrong movie

crowe and bana are too beefcakey.

What do people think about Paul Haggis being the new writer/director? He did a great job with Crash and Million Dollar Baby.

Personally, I think we may finally have a truly adult Bond film no matter who the actor is, which we definitely need… the last few have been utter b*llocks.

Totally agree. But I’m not holding my breath. The franchise baby, the franchise. All about the franchise.
I wish they would make a proper Bond film though.

Trey and Matt from Team America / Sth Park would probably make a great Bond film.

Pierce was good.

He fares well here, here I agree:

One of the gentlemen in this bodybuilding picture was Mr. Egypt. If anyone is ever staying in the Windsor Hotel in Cairo, home of the old British Officer’s Club, you can see him tending the bar there. He is a bloody good story teller and makes a pretty mean gin and tonic.

I want a martini, man. Shaken, not stir fried.

The official announcement of the latest James Bond:

Daniel Craig will be the sixth actor to star as James Bond.
Producers say the new 007 will dispense with the
cheesy one-liners and bring a ‘contemporary edge to the role’.
Filming begins in January. Picture: EPA

We expect you to dye, Mr Bond …
STEPHEN MCGINTY, The Scotsman

THE tuxedo is laundered, the Walther PPK fully loaded and a fresh round of dry Martinis - shaken, not stirred - have been ordered on M’s bar tab. After months of speculation, the worst kept secret in showbusiness was finally revealed yesterday as Daniel Craig was officially announced as the latest James Bond.

The new 007, number six, will be darker and edgier with the cheesy one-liners so beloved of Roger Moore dispatched via the ejector seat. He will also be the first blond James Bond. Or will he? Publicity photographs of the actor yesterday showed Craig in classic Bond-style pose - complete with dark, dyed hair.(more at link)

How about Vin Diesel?

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: Ok, back to the serious discussion.

New guy? Don’t know anything about him, but his face is vaguely familiar. Well, if Sandman is otherwise occupied, whaddya gonna do? Gotta pick someone.

I second that.
Absolutely agree.

Agree with the presence comment. Russell Crowe would have been a great choice, had he not already developed a filmography and independent film persona that is substantial in its own right.

He’d be ok, too. I’d like to see him do something that is distinctly NOT like Transporter 2.

:roflmao:

I liked him years ago in “Remington Steele,” but I’ve had the same impression of him as Bond. I will not be sad to see him go.

Question: What happened to that other guy that was somewhat pre-selected? The co-star to Brad Pitt in the Troy movie. What’s his name??

EDIT: The guy’s name is Eric Bana (teggs mentioned him in the thread). imdb.com/name/nm0051509/

I wanted to see him give it a whirl. Wonder what happened?

I’m trying to separate my general distaste for the last several Bond films from how I think Pierce Brosnan performed in the role. Already talked about him above.

I believe that the movies have gotten much worse over time for two main reasons. First, the witty sexual banter of the early movies has degenerated into clever primary school stuff like, “Hey look, that guy has a penis!”, and two, the special effects guys clearly run the whole show. What in the hell were they thinking in that one (Brosnan’s 1st?) when he dove off the cliff, skydiving after the falling, pilotless plane, and freefell into the open plane door? Not only was it a load of horseshit, but the special effects were so crappy that it reminded me of old Godzilla movies.

I’m way overdue for a decent, sophisticated Bond movie with a fitting actor in the role.

No, James Bond needs that twinkle in the eye that Sean Connery so has. Russell Crowe doesn’t have it. He doesn’t look smart or naughty at all. Somebody like Bruce Willis would be good, just not Bruce Willis.
Johnny Depp would be insanely cool. Face it, Bond isn’t Bond anymore. All kinds of PC-crap has taken the bounce out of most men’s steps, and the twinkle out of most eyes, so much so that most men are too dull and polite to ever be seen as sexy or magnetic. Depp would be able to do a nice send-up of that.

How about Angelina Jolie then? Nobody’s going to complain when a woman seduces a man and manages to remove his clothes by “sheer magnetism”. The only man who gets away with stuff like that these days is a vampire. Or a woman.

Sean Bean might be OK at a push. He’s handsome, and he might be able to muster the twinkle if they feed him some viagra or something.

I liked Timothy Dalton myself. Sean Connery was better, but I would rate Timothy Dalton as the second best. He looked mean, serious, businesslike, and slightly disturbed - like you would expect a real spy to be.

Roger Moore was too much of a cardboard cut out.

I also liked Timothy Dalton as Bond, thought he fitted perfectly to the role. Pierce Brosnan will always be Remington Steele to me, not James Bond. Sean Connery was the best though, IMO, and I admit I did like Roger Moore, too.

Have been skeptical about Daniel Craig but just watched ‘Layer Cake’ on DVD and think he might be a good choice afterall.

Speaking of
it reminded me of old Godzilla movies
, what were they thinking with that mad kite boarding scene in Die Another Day?

(I’m thinking of starting my own board where I post questions and then come back a day later and answer them myself. It should be doubly satisfying!)
