Has anyone been to the NTD 100 haircut joint I see popping up around town?
I went to one in Carrefour Neihu and for blokes and kids it would be OK. They take 10 minutes and my wife liked it, so can’t be bad. I know she’d never to go though!
There is a guy set up under the Chienkwo overpass, north of Chung Hsiao, where cars can cut under the overpass to go in the opposite direction. He seems to mostly do brush cuts with a razor or clipper, but he always has someone in his chair.
I tried the one in RT Mart once and the guy who cut my hair was about as clued-up as I am when it comes to cutting. It took him almost 25 minutes to get the job done and it was, at times, scary mostly because he was so shaky (as in jittery) and inept. I left pretty pissed off and went the same day to my regular barber (one of those old guys with an outfit that reminds me of my kid years in England) who did his best to fix up the mess “Just Cut” made.
That being said, “Just Cut” do have some hotties doing the cutting. Just bad luck in my case, I guess. :s
PS: This is my 200th post.
Nope. I get my hair cut at the barbers at NCCU. Cost me 130NT, they spend a good 1/2 hour cutting my hair, and always use the long razor on the back of my neck. A good cut for a very decent price.
I went to the one in the Carrefour in JhongHe and hated the result. My hair is not difficult to cut but they left it uneven on the sides. It looked horrible.
The best I’ve found is at NTU-Science and Technology. There’s a shop in the lower level of one of the buildings with 4 or 5 ladies cutting hair for 140NT. I’ve never gotten a bad hair cut there.
Not much help for all you up north but I go to a place not far from the naval base in Zuoying down here in Kaohsiung. Granted it’s actually been half a year since I’ve gone because I’m growing my hair out (until the weather gets too hot that is) but last time I went had a wash, cut AND a hot shave and it was no more than 150.
I just paid 300NT for the worst hair cut of my life up here in Shijr - DAMN I’m feeling stupid. Next time I may as well just go to carrefour.
I once paid 30NT to have my son’s hair cut by a woman who ran her own shop from her livingroom. She will not cut women’s hair, but did a great job on the little one. I’ll not likely see that kind of value again soon, in anything. One of the things I miss most about Taiwan is getting the hair washed and cut, or just washed, and the obligitory neck and shoulder rub down. For a woman, though it costs a bit more than for a man, this is almost like heaven. Here in the States, you pay for the wash, the blow dry, the cut, and the style. And you pay dearly. So you end up seeing women looking worse and more shaggy comming out of the stylists shop than when they went in because their hair is some times still wet, and if it’s dry it’s not style. Makes no sense to me. And I also have one of the worst cuts in my life at the moment because the idiot girl I let cut it couldn’t be communicated with. I used words, pointed to photos, mimed, the whole bit. She apparently only knew one cut. I didn’t pay for it, either! Sorry to rant in your thread.
There’s always the little old 70nt barber on Lin-Sen Rd in Taipei.
Thanks, Stuart. I just got back from there. It’s on the third floor of the Neihu Carrefour, just around the corner from the B&Q and Costco. Took only ten minutes, and they did a good job. (I always get an ultra-short brush-cut, which is pretty hard to screw up.)
I’ll go back again.
This retired couple at the village I lived in (Wanli) gave a no shampoo haircut for only 50nt. They were superb. They had been barbers for decades in Hsimenting. Only open 3 hours a day tho. IT was just fun for em. Something to do.
Just do it yourself - that way you’ll have know-one else to blame. Blame which is inevitable in my experience! Haircuts are for those without sufficient masculine authority!
