The Oscars

Why?

I’m all for a female or gay male super-spy, but I don’t understand the edgy need to swap genders, races, etc. of characters that have existed for decades. It’s so faux progressive. Create new characters. Let them come into their own and develop their own mythology. Don’t rewrite old characters.

But they need to make the Patriarchy suffer for its evil ways. They can’t be let off so easily.

Touché!

But this movie also invalidated my multiple Bonds theory, so I have mixed feelings about it.

I can get behind this. A bisexual Bond could be pretty hot.

And it actually makes you more “versatile” as a spy…you can seduce both men and women.

Fleming’s simile, Bond’s unhappy that the CIA knew he was in America, Live and Let Die.

On the fence about Roger Moore, have to say. I think Moore’s Bond jumped the shark for me.

We could end up with a James Bond who is not James Bond at all. The character created by, of his time, racist and sexist Ian Fleming could be completely different.

In which case, it wouldn’t be James Bond. Somebody would have to step up to the plate and create a new character.

Masking the real character …hmmm , not sure ?
This was amusing.

My Dad grew up with Sean Connery’s Bond and hates the Roger Moore interpretation with the burning rage of a thousand suns. He loves Connery, likes Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, is meh about Timothy Dalton, and really hates Moore and Lazenby.

Dalton was excellent. In two low budget movies he really stood out.

Moore is difficult to call. He did do a couple of stonkers. Live and Let Die is great fun as is The Spy Who Loved Me.

Connery is the true Bond. Moore I only liked The Spy Who Loved Me

Lazenby was ok in that one Bond movie he did.

Brosnan was a better Bond than Dalton I thought and this last guy, Craig is probably the best Bond since Connery.

But maybe we really should think of Tom Cruise as Bond because the Mission Impossible movies are more Bondian than Bond movies.

I wasn’t even serious lol.

Disagree about Mission Impossible. I think the series is overrated. I like Craig a lot, but he’s getting old and it’s starting to show. He’s been Bond for 13 years and is about to surpass Moore’s record for the longest serving Bond. Time to pass the torch.

Craig’s unlikely to beat Moore’s record of 58 years old.

Craig is ageing far more rapidly than Moore did.

Mission Impossible is funny. James Bond is more serious.
