A 3d printer is on the horizon for me. I have a million prototypes and doodads I imagine myself pumping out of it. My shaky finger has been hovering over the GO button for months now. What’s. stopping me is thinking on whether it will join the two extra large totes full of tools and materials from previous failed attempts at joining the likes of Edison.

It will, guaranteed. The true question is whether you’ll get something out of the period between shipment arrival and then. If you’re going to enjoy it or be productive for a decent amount of time, then sure. Though, like me, if you’re just going to buy it and then are surprised by having no money at the end of the month and a mystery package arrives that you just throw in the cupboard without ever opening, then I’d suggest foregoing on that purchase.

Get some designs in place first, perhaps?

In Kyoto, hearing the cuckoo, I long for Kyoto.

Yeah, I know too much about them. Any questions, ask away. The only question I don’t know the answer to is “why?”

Isn’t there a joke about everyone having a raspberry pi in their computer desk drawer?

Anywho, Raspberry Pi’s in particular are a very interesting phenomenon. They seem cheap, but in actuality, to do any sort of project with them will cost much more money as you have to buy other components as well.

Sounds like a dangerous combination of being distracted by the new and shiny and the predilection for tinkering.

The only materialism weakness I have is with things related to sports. I like a good swimsuit, cap, and goggles. I like good running shoes (love my new Hokas). I like new cycling things. But compared to many people I know, I would say my spending is somewhat tame (especially with the cycling gear as that can get very expensive and many people go all out in Taiwan). Also, I thoroughly use everything I buy and so I think it’s money well spent.

Shopping therapy. The thrill of the hunt. FOMO
or I just like cool shit
and good deals

Be careful what you wish for!

I have one here too. I work from home a lot and thought it would be a cheap way not to lug my laptop around all the time.

Only to learn citrix workspace doesn’t work on Raspberry Pis anymore so it was a fruitless effort and it now banished to the drawer

Me too. Would be a great tool to get some respect from drivers when crossing the road.

I had a Volvo 142 a short while, before a guy approached me on the street wanting to buy it. So happy with that one fast turnover

Most old SAAB, 99 and 900… One odd Mazda but that was terrible in the winter as it was so many and big rust whole’s to fix it took me forever

I never had more than two cars at the time, I couldn’t afford it. I bought an old defect car, bought spare parts at the scrap yard and fixed it so I could drive around in it, but always kept a “for sale” sign on the windscreen. So roughly bought a car for 10-25k NTD, spent some thousands on spare parts from junkyard and sold it for 20-90k

Not a business to make myself rich, I more used it for being able to have a car to drive around without spending money, after insurance and petrol it was some spare beer money left but nothing big

And deprive poor Forumosa of its ad revenue! SHAME

Is a PiHole better than ublock origin? PiHole sounds like it has to be always on, and could be compromised for a man-in-the-middle attack :open_mouth:

That’s the case anyway, the four girlfriends would help the RSI though.

It’s additcion and chemical releases. It’s why I don’t judge heroin addicts. To each their own.

Quadruple the headache though! Just get a few of those Chinese love bots for $2999 US. Much cheaper than wining and dining.

Yeah it’s always on. I haven’t heard of MitM attacks being an issue - as long as bad actors are blocked from accessing your network, and the whole setup is properly configured, shouldn’t be a problem.

What’s nice is that it works for anything attached to the network, so each device and browser doesn’t have to be setup individually with its own adblocker.

Although it must be said that no, it doesn’t block youtube ads.

And of course forumosa is whitelisted. Can’t wait for the next batch of greeting card and tea ads to drop. Exciting times!

I’d trust it over the average ISP router/firewall. :smirk:

If nothing else because if there is a flaw it’s a lot more likely to be announced and patched quickly!
