The Podcast Thread

Hmmn… I’ll have to ask them again when I’m back in the classroom.

EDIT: Sorry, I see you said you didn’t have any.

Sorry, no idea. I generally recommend they just search for a podcast on a topic they’re interested in - there’s guaranteed to be a podcast about it.

Plus my interests mostly do not align with theirs. Which is fine. I’d be worried about either them or me if there was much overlap. I remember recommending Game of Thrones podcasts a few years ago, but it’s been a while since a TV show that both I and my students have watched.

Yes, my wife is not the Dan Carlin type :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry I did miss you said you didn’t have any recommendations in your previous post.

Anyway I will report back if I find out my students are now into it. I have noticed many more coming into class with AirPods planted in their ears lately (something I’m not thrilled about as a few conveniently “forget” to take them out once class instruction begins).

YouTube is the podcast world for many people.

Many of the top YouTube channels in Taiwan are actually a podcast with video.

They’re doing a podcast but they video it.

So people are watching their podcast but not necessarily listening to podcast.

New Hardcore History out yesterday. Sensitive subject.

Yeah, I’ve listened to about half of it. It’s okay so far; not one of my favorites tbh (that might just be the fact I have less interest in the topic and not regarding any specific issue of quality). But Carlin is Carlin, and even ‘just okay’ Carlin is still better than 99% of the other podcasts in my feed.

He also came out with a new ‘Common Sense’ about the Ukrainian invasion a week ago.

ICRT launched an interview with Joseph Wu, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on their podcast Taiwan This Week.
Interesting one!

The top podcast in the USA is about serial killers, rapists, cannibals, and generally just killing killing.

Morbid, by two women have mostly no clue about anything even wondering why criminals wear gloves.

I can’t remember the last podcast that hooked me. Nothing seems that original anymore. All the ‘true crime’ porn is starting to turn me off, and only a couple of them are any good anyway. These days I’m listening more to Audibles, the book-on-tape app. I keep hoping one day I’ll see a new Hardcore History pop up in my feed… hope springs eternal.

Reminder for those interested and may not know, Dan Carlin also Hardcore History Addendum that is not quite as structured.

Dan Carlin has a book out that is supposed to read interestingly.

I enjoyed this political talk from this Oz podcaster, in short, he challenged his guest logically, civilly, and with humor. I’ll check out more

Insightful from someone that has done good in the world.

I’ve given up on podcasts in the last month. Nothing new interests me anymore, and the ones I used to listen to have gotten stale or gone downhill. Dan Carlin really needs to release a new Hardcore History right about now.

I’m glad you mentioned him because I did not know he had a new podcast just in january.

I guess you already been through Dan Carlin’s latest 5 hour, 16 January 2023 podcast, and his other 23 Addendum’s podcasts.

Most of his are never bad for a repeat.

I started listening to The British History Podcast as I have recently read a few interesting books about Anglo Saxon and Norman history books. There are a few hundred episodes in this podcast, which seems somewhat overwhelming, but I walk my dogs every day for a couple of hours, so let’s see how far I last with this podcast

Dan Carlin Hardcore History Addendum podcast with guest Rick Rubin.

6.5/10

First half talking about creativity and second half theorizing about all kinds of things in life.

Apparently they are long time good friends and business partners.

Dan Carlin’s book he said is also an audiobook so I’ll probably go that route.

I just stumbled upon The Moth, as the show will be live in Troy, NY soon.

Listening to some from Iran, in Spotify. Idk I had a Spotify. Ha

On this episode, we talk to Mojdeh Rezaeipour about the situation in Iran, and hear a story from her. This episode is hosted by Jenifer Hixson.
