I love the right to bear arms. This weekend I went to the San Juan National forest and shot an AK-47, AR-15, and 357 magnum for the first time. I am sure the fellow campers were a little concerned about 5 guys walking around with assault rifles, hand guns, and hunting attire. I had a great time and the park ranger was helpful in finding a place to shoot for us. I love US public land and National Forests. Can’t do this in Taiwan.
I also stand behind the right to arm bears. Bears need to hunt too, and as their habitats gets smaller and threatened by human encroachment, they need a way to defend their lives, hearth, and family.
Thats pretty funny, as we were shooting, a guy needed to drop a load so he went off with his shovel and toilet paper. When he came back he informed us of seeing bear tracks. So the next guy that went to drop a load took a 9mm with him, we suggested the 357 but he went off and took a shit with no incident. I mean come on its only a 300 lb black bear. Damn bears trying to take over the country and protect their shit.

Thanks for having a sense of humour. Too little of that here at f.com lately.
Yea, my friend used to take me shooting. He had his two kids (14 and 15) trained too, and they competed. It was really neat to see his collection. He had a massive safe (coulda stuffed me in there and still had room). Had pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, ammo, sights, tripods, etc. His kids were totally responsible and had level heads. He had them learn motorcycling too (off-road and on-road). Totally cool dad. Very positive guy.

That is really awesome. Safety and responsiblity is what it is all about. Just having some fun in the USA.
I’m as pleased as Punch you AmeriKKKans can arm yourselves to your silly teeth, I just wish you could have tactical nukes too, but please, please, please, do not even consider arming the local folks in these parts, I’ve seen them in traffic, it’d all be over in a filthy weekend.

Now, now HG. “AmeriKKkan” is quite offensive to most and at least in the US they don’t even get close to national level elections unlike our brother nations.
In anycase, I’ve personal experience of people swearing they would never, ever, ever touch a gun, for whom guns are an abomination, go completely gonzo once they’ve put a few rounds down range. (for some reason especially women).
My state has the highest gun ownership per capita and one of the lowest murder rates. Tells me that there is a big difference between having a 9mm in NYC vs. Southcoast Maine.

See, now that’s America. Interracial mahem with guns. Why is it the rest of the world pictures Bo & Luke Duke?
I also like the fact that I can wear sleeveless shirts if I wish.

So how am I supposed to distinguish between you lot and those others across the wheat fields and into the frozen tundra?

I myself now the appeal, but if I saw a gaggle of men armed like the Sadr martyrs brigade loping through my picnic area to blast the bejeesus out of nothing in particular, why I’d be tempted to shoot 'em . . . erh, with a sniper rifle and from some relatively safe distance, and only if calling in an airstrike was simply too impractical.
Anyway, in Australia while I don’t doubt we have gun nuts, for most people guns are simply not a factor in their lives, or if they are, they are considered a dangerous tool to be handled with respect. As fun as they can be to blaze away with, their core function remains as a mainly rural tool. I for one very much prefer it that way. The thought of people lugging automatic weapons out of their boot frightens the crap outta me.

You mean those drug addled, communist, free-riders in Canada? Agreed. Guns are tools and never toys.
Well, I got it.

I would love to take you out and shoot a gun sometime. I think it would be good for you. Yes as a tool a gun primarily serves its function for hunting and killing lame cattle. They can also be a lot of fun when used properly and responsibly.
I found the camping ground situation laughable because it was our right to walk around with our guns. In fact a group of “40 something hippies” came up and offered to take a picture of all of us holding our guns with our cameras. This was after they had disassembled their teepee and one guy was playing his wind pipe. No biggie just a USA thing.
Just a question, Do they have Militias in Australia?
As I said, I get it. I have fired plenty of weapons growing uop with relatives in rural Australia, during a stint in the army and while working as a country labourer. I do see the appeal, but it was beaten into me as a young 'un that these are tools and not toys.
Militias in Australia? They have a militarty reserve, if that’s what you mean, and that is strictly part of the military. There’s certainly nothing like private militias. Different history.

Understandable, just curious. Guns for sure are not toys but, they can be fun. Considering that some guys I know will spend 1500 USD on a gun just for “fun” shooting. Ah well to each their own. I only have a 12 gauge and a 30-30 rifle which are used for white tail deer hunting. I really like shooting the 357 magnum. I have never shot a hand gun but it was definitely fun. I plan on buying one if I ever come back from Taiwan.

Yep like HG I know from growing up on the farm what guns should be used for.
There’s nothing like seeing a full man cry kneeling at his own graveside when you are holding a shotgun into the small of his back… I’m sure those pesky animalies don’t mind being shot at and hunted too.
Wow. What movie is that from?
No doubt being quite used to it by now, it’s entirely probable that it’s become par for the course. Ingrained, as it is.
Guns are fun. However, usage is not a right, but a responsibility.
Militia, my ass. That shit went out the window the moment The Last InJun Was Done Pacified. What else was there after that? An invasion from Canada? :uhhuh:
“The fascination of shooting as a sport depends almost wholly on whether you are at the right or the wrong end of the gun.”
P.G. WODEHOUSE
Better than those stupid bow hunters that just wound the thing and then have to chase it half across creation.

Dunno…never saw that…but then I’ve always been a civilian.
