The Rise of Skywalker

The prequels were infantile nonsense, but at least they were creative. These current movies are just the worst kind of member berries fan service. With as @finley said, some modern day forced identity politics thrown in for good measure.

The original trilogy were all legend, this is the less star wars trailer of all.

My hot take: ā€˜The Empire Strikes Backā€™ is the only really classic film in the whole franchise. A few others like ā€˜A New Hopeā€™ and ā€˜Rogue Oneā€™ are good, but not great (and no, I donā€™t think ā€˜Return of the Jediā€™ even qualifies as ā€œgoodā€, outside of a few scenes at the beginning and endā€¦ everything in the middle is crap).

Relying on nostalgia while disregarding what made the original trilogy great and what made the characters loved. It makes no sense. They should have just made an entirely different story from a different timeline and plot in the galaxy if they wanted to do that. They not only managed to make awful characters, they went back and made all the characters we love become shit. What the hell happened to Luke? What the hell happened to Han Solo?

They cannibalized their own mythos. The old characters are out of character and portrayed as cynical, weak and/or stupid, and the new characters who look like they stepped out of one of those cheesy college catalogues showcasing diversity, are all stronger, more competent, smarter, etc.

But what will they call the porn parody?

IMHO the first two movies (ā€œA New Hopeā€ and ā€œEmpireā€) are honest-to-God film classics. With ā€œReturn of the Jedi,ā€ Lucas made a number of departures from what would have been most dramatic, on the basis of what would be best at moving merchandise (Ewoks instead of Wookiees, Luke not killing Han out of jealousy and turning to the dark side, assuming Vaderā€™s mantle). I would love to see the Topher Grace edit of the prequel trilogy, which is said to have teased one fairly good movie out of the three (overlooking the acting), but otherwise those films were a bit like Godfather 3. The last few Star Wars movies (except Rogue One) are comparable to (Kelvin timeline) Star Trek in quality.

This is like me and my wife, except when we discuss restaurants instead of movies.

ā€œWhat should we get tonight?ā€

ā€œWhatever you want! ā€

ā€œPizza?ā€

ā€œI donā€™t want pizza. :slightly_frowning_face:ā€

ā€œThai?ā€

ā€œI donā€™t feel like Thai. :triumph: ā€œ

ā€œWell, what do you want??ā€

ā€œWhy are you asking me? Whatever you want. I donā€™t care! :expressionless: ā€œ

Ah, the ubiquitous, ā€œwhat shall we eat tonight ā€œ ā€¦ itā€™s a worldwide issue

Thereā€™s so much you can do with the Star Wars universe - all the books that itā€™s spawned being an example. What was effectively episode IV 2: electric boogaloo and a low speed space chase has to be some of most uninteresting ideas you can come up with.

Oh yeah, Disney made all of the stuff none cannon besides the movies and clone wars cartoon.

Speaking of the clone wars cartoon

I completely agree. And for this disappointment I blame JJ Abrams. His Bad Robot team simply makes bad movies. Or at least, not memorable ones.

Like many others, I initially thought Alias and its crazy cliffhangers were fun. But then Lost was a long, drawn out betrayal. And then Episode 7 and the Kelvin stuff proved to be unexciting. So to hear he is back in the saddle for the finale of Star Wars does absolutely nothing to move my interest level

I enjoyed Lost lol. Well I keep having dreams about it even though I last watched it about 8 years ago

Watch fans react to the teaser:

Youā€™re funny.

7 was quite decent, I like how it felt like a SW movie again (as opposed to 1-3). 8 def had its moments, but some parts are silly and could be cut. Really liked Rogue One. Didnā€™t super need Solo (at least how it turned out).

Actually quite a bit of C4 were involved in the filming. For sure lots of CG, but they made a point to achieve as many things practically as possible ā€“ Some things are just hard to fake (well).

7 looked more like a Star Wars movie. But did not feel like it for me.

Perhaps the force Strong is not for this one , Master ?

They went with the son of solo narrative but they should have gone with the son of Chewbacca narrative.

I honestly think they should do a Qui gon Jinn prequel story. Him training from padawan And eventually taking on obi wan. Qui Gon Jinn is by far one of the most interesting jedis, he was a real maverick and considered a grey Jedi, one of the few like mace windu that would use some aspects of he dark side of the force. Qui gon was always going against the Jedi order and was against the Jedi suppression of emotions and honestly should have trained Anakin.

Star Wars is full of lore before the new republic and empire. Wish they would explore them. I know a lot of fans would enjoy it like myself. And thereā€™s so many already great characters and stories, they got the work cut out for them. They did buy the entire STar Wars IP. Put it to use. I honestly donā€™t love any of the new characters they created.

Sadly I will still fork over the money to see it. Whatā€™s a fan to do? I love Star Wars.
