I’m just putting up what sails across the bow. I said he trades a lot— and he sits on committees where certain companies are awarded contracts. That is a pet peeve of mine. Don’t like it at all. Also, as more and more details Come Out about his seemingly planned encounter in Gaza— meh— he’s seeking the spot light, imo. A lot of he said he said going on— but from what I have read, he wasn’t supposed to be there, was never given a green light to go there— to where the incident occurred— and he met with a real life murderer beforehand. And then sent a veiled I may be potus one day threat to Jewish leaders. I’m waiting to hear the other side but as I said, I see what I see — and while the algorithm is somewhat responsible for that, what I do see so far — the huge amounts of trades— puts me off. I’m opened minded enough to listen, but I like him and I’d vote for him doesn’t really move the needle for me. 🤷 ---

I mean yes, he didn’t have permission from the IDF to be there, but there’s quite a lot of nuance around that which I’m sure you’re aware of. ---

But certainly there are Zionist interests in keeping him out of power, given his positions, and the whole “closed military zone” thing is a tool used almost exclusively to further repress Palestinians in the west bank. Also they weren’t initially detained by a “first responder team”, they were detained by armed Israeli settlers who also theoretically aren’t supposed to be in the zone. There’s video of it! I do think it’s totally possible that Khanna went there deliberately to get a reaction, and I’m … pretty okay with that, I guess? ---

Nothing like handing the US State Department an all-hands emergency just to raise awareness back home. Khanna could have disappeared then, say, reappeared in a hostage video shot in Iran. Khanna’s framing of it as almost a diplomatic crisis is interesting. Apparently the Israeli government wanted to organize his tour, which sounds slightly delusional if not Orwellian. also interesting is that Rahm Emanuel spoke at the Tel Aviv University around the same time and laid out a bunch of points about the current and potential future problems facing Israel and it’s perception. ---

The NYT would certainly know what’s what among the DSA. 😀 Speaking of which, it doesn’t seem very democratic to disallow a poll of DSA members. This characteristic is behind some of my alarm at support for the DSA among young Americans. Their latest (I think) Congressional candidate (NY-13), Chevalier (she now calls herself DAC), won’t even entertain questions about how democratic she would be if she were to lose a future election. In one interview (CNN), when asked about details concerning her socialist principles she refused to answer, choosing instead to accuse her questioner of McCarthyism.
