> Domestic Siraya rocket to take off in 4 years at the earliest
>
> 2022/10/01 05:30
>
> Taiwan will launch its national “Siraya rocket project” 「西拉雅火箭計畫」 next year, and if the funding is supported by the Legislative Yuan, it will be possible to send the entire home-made, self-launch and independently tested rocket to space in 2026 at the earliest!
>
> If the project goes well, it will be the first time that Taiwan achieves the milestone of self-made rocket, self-launch, and independent testing of space components.
>
> TASA (Taiwan Space Agency) to be reorganized as an administrative corporation next year
>
> The Taiwan Space Agency will be reorganized as an administrative corporation next year, and Wu Zongxin, known as “The Father of Taiwan’s Rocketry”, signed a memorandum of cooperation with NTU Cancer Hospital on behalf of the space center yesterday.
>
> In an interview after the meeting, Wu pointed out that the “Siraya rocket project” 「西拉雅火箭計畫」 is to send the space components that need to be tested to space through the rocket, and all the components, materials and manufacturing processes of the rocket will be built by Taiwan.
>
> The National Space Launch Center may be in Dongping
>
> According to the Space Development Act, the space center must be responsible for building the national launch site. The site selection committee’s composition and site selection criteria have also been established, including the need to consider nearly 10 factors such as traffic, size, and whether there are residents within a one- to two-kilometer radius of the site.
>
> The site will be selected through a committee using scientific data.
>
> The project will be completed in Taiwan," Wu said, "and there will be no foreign assistance for this kind of project.
>
> Compared to Korea’s World rocket project, which began in 2010 and was successfully launched in June this year at a total cost of about NT$45.2 billion, he predicted that Taiwan’s Siraya rocket project would cost less than Korea’s and have a shorter timeline.
>
> If the Siraya rocket project is successfully implemented, it is expected to complement the last piece of “launch services”, “satellite manufacturing”, “ground equipment” and “back-end applications” in Taiwan’s satellite industry.
>
> As for the name of the project, why is it named “Siraya”? Wu said, "Siraya is the name of the Pingpu tribe in Taiwan, and its main area of activity was in the Chianan Plain, with the connotation of sending Taiwan’s Mother Earth into space.
>
> The Pingtung Xuhai Scientific Research Rocket Launch Site is currently the only site in Taiwan and is small.
>
> The site of the national launch site to be built by the space center may be in Pingtung or Taitung.

Nice, but it’s clearly just a proof-of-concept - it looks only marginally larger than the sort of thing that amateurs launch. I reckon they’re a long way off competing with SpaceX.

Yeah, can’t fault them for giving it a go. Every country should have a beer, an airline, and a space programme.

The 2 video are related to Taiwan’s suborbital rockets. Not to be confused with the real orbital launchers.

The later one should be the solid propellant Kirin SLV with a payload capacity of 200 kilograms into a 500-kilometer SSO orbit.

Note that Kirin SLV is said to be similar to the Indian SLV-3 SLV that was later incorporated into India’s Agni, the first Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM). Read: Dual-use civilian-military

Unknown whether Siraya SLV is the renamed Kirin. As it is sometimes compared to the South Korean Nuri SLV, Siraya might be instead a liquid propellant launcher.

Taiwan Lunar Exploration Program

Space Development Phase 3

>
> The Phase 3 plan for space exploration will last for 10 years. From 2019 to 2028, the investment will be NT$25.1 billion.
>
> The space exploration project for Space Development Phase 3 will also develop at least one lunar orbiter.
>
> Lin Junliang said that the First Phase must carry out the design and research of the Lunar Orbiter, and the Second Phase is the Lunar Lander. Since the orbiting the moon is different from the earth low-orbiting satellite, their is needs to have the sound ground communication technology, radiation resistance and orbital manoeuvering foundations.

Solid propellant space launcher program

>
> The Ministry of National Defense has developed a space launch vehicle capable of placing a 50 to 200 kilograms microsatellites into a 500-kilometer SSO orbit, under the code name “Kirin Project” (麒麟專案). It is reported that this year three sets of rocket propulsion vehicles were built. The entire project plans to manufacture six sets of rocket propulsion vehicles. After ground testing, the first flight-test will be carried out smoothly in 2021.
>
> It is reported that starting from this year, after the Kirin project first produced three sets of rocket propulsion vehicles, each for static ground testing works, the entire project plans to manufacture six sets of rocket propulsion vehicles.
>
> After completing the various ground testing, system integration and system testing are carried out.
>
> Because the launch vehicle is a four-stage solid-fuel rocket, each stage separation requires a telemetry and control system. The flight attitude control cannot pilot the rocket after take off. This requires guidance. Technology that is the focus of the “Star Show Project” (星展專案). In addition, due to the weight of the rocket carrier, whether the launch platform of the existing Jiupeng base (九鵬基地) can bear the weight, the Chinese Academy of Sciences will carry out geological exploration to ensure the safety of the launch pad.
