What are good Taiwanese machine tool brands?

Vertex. Look it up. They make machinist vises.

There is also Victor, aka 台中精機

YCM as well, makes CNC machines.

Hiwin is hiring machine operators $2.1K US to $2.7 US/month.

Technicians with no education:
$1.6K US to $2.1K US/month

Not too shabby for blue-collared jobs.

This guy needs a haircut and a degreaser for his face, but he provides a good explanation of Mini LED.

The chaebol have endless resources and pushed Innolux and AUO out of mass-producing OLED. But this time around, Taiwan has Apple’s backing for Mini-LED, and possibly to put Taiwan in the lead.

Advantages of Mini-LED over OLED:

  1. Costs 20-40% lower than OLED.
  2. Saturation, brightness and color 3-5 fold better than OLED.
  3. Screen thickness about the same as OLED.
  4. Better brightness means better for outdoor use.
  5. Durability beats OLED. Useful life is 3-5 fold longer. OLED’s color deteriorates after a while.
  6. Uses less power.

Currently, there is a holding company called Ennostar, which is a merger between Epistar and Lextar with AUO as a parent. The American semiconductor CREE has a 4% stake.

After they fulfill 7 million orders from Apple, they will sell to non-Apple companies.

I wish we had an expert on the Korean economy here.

I don’t think there’s much profit in displays. Not reliably anyway. 5G linked tech components seems to be to a better bet.

5G phones need displays.

Yeah really ?

lol there is a lot of money to make in displays.

Profit…Stock upside …Seen this all before…

It probably depends on where in the food chain you are as to the degree, but OEMs like Samsung, LG, Dell, HP, Lenovo make wads and wads of profit in displays. The margins are far greater than their various PC lines in aggregate.

TVs look like the worst biz ever.
Every time you look they always get cheaper !.
No service revenue. No consumables . No loyalty.

I just bought a 60 inch haier TV for 13k, with official android!

Whereas laptops, they’ve been going up in price .

And I don’t even have a TV!

That’s good for Taiwan, bad for Korea.

Cool game!

Why can’t Taiwan get construction workers from Southeast Asia? US construction employs mostly immigrants. Severe shortage.

I see a lot of them.

Too bad 2.5% is just inline with inflation. 6% would include a slight average rise in COL. Not sure if this will be enough to attract more qualified talent.

That’s good news. I hope the program is just being whiny.

When are you moving here ?
