The Trump Presidency 2.0

The president elect is clearly stating his intentions to establish tariffs, at worst the retailers are taking advantage of low education Americans who believe what Dump says

The fear by federal workers in some agencies must be palpable. The social safety net in the US is one of the worst in the world (probably the worst for an advanced economy). Now a handful of rich guys are going to use some pretty heartless tactics to reduce payrolls. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas everyone!

But it’s to reduce government payrolls. That may or may not work to our–or the rich guys’–benefit, but we’re paying for it and should insist on getting value for the money. They should proceed reasonably, and I would bet they will ultimately have to, but they’re not sinecures.

It’s got nothing to do with being ‘heartless’. It’s pure business. When I was younger I ‘down sized’ in private companies, sure it wasn’t fun, but I didn’t get all emotional about it. It actually worked out better for me, because I moved to a better company with more pay.

I somewhat agree with the second part of that, but for reasonableness part, nobody knows. Well, he’s already naming names so we kind of know that he’s pretty heartless. With directors, etc., sure fine. They probably have options if they lose their jobs.

I think differently. Very differently.

I have no problem with trying to make government more efficient. Targeting individuals, publicly, when you reasonably know it’s going to bring a major shit storm to them is not just business. It’s about being an asshole not giving a fuck and trolling people for funsies.

Doing it based on odd vs even social security numbers is more brainless than heartless, but that’s what the American people voted for. Anyways, still waiting to see if DOGE is like the NAFTA refresh (new name, apparently better deals for Canada and Mexico so now Trump is pissed about free trade), or like the repeal and replace of Obamacare (didn’t even get a name change), or like the Abrams Accords (more Kushner than Trump, but still it hasn’t led to much more than ethnic cleansing).

Doubts, and consequences

Some of them need to be held to account. People like Gary Gensler, who Trump called out and later said he’d fire on ‘day one’.

Singling out people just doing their jobs is cruel and stupid. That might be how they continue along, but we’ll have to see.

Agreed— people follow orders. Single out the schmuck giving them.

Oh wait—

The scary part is how millions of Americans would rather have this over the next 4 years rather than the “status quo”. I guess because it entertains them.

While I’d hate to see Ireland become poorer I have no qualms if the US under President-elect Trump moves to become the low-tax (corporate tax rates) nation of the world.

It would help in the repatriation of US manufacturing/assembly, at the corporate communication level, to have all corporate lawyers in the same place, and I’d settle for the same country.

Anyway, as an American I wish no harm to Ireland’s economy.

Congratulations on Trump’s appointment to be America’s new ambassador to France, Jared Kushner’s father and Ivanka’s father-in-law:

Charles Kushner was convicted in 2005 illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion and witness tampering in the scheme against his brother-in-law, which resulted in a two-year prison term and his disbarment, but the former president pardoned him Dec. 23, 2020, and his nomination surprised many
“Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, recorded their sexual encounter, and sent the tape to his sister, all in retaliation for his brother-in-law’s cooperation with a federal investigation into other crimes Kushner had committed,” said Stan Veuger, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
