There’s a new WHO head and a newly dominant strain of avian flu. Both are Chinese. Beijing loves the former and is denying the existence of the latter, probably because Beijing’s vaccination policy enabled its proliferation. WHO scientists are already angry at China for withholding data, and now reporters are asking if the director-general has enough integrity to criticize her own government. An irrelevant question, obviously, since China will do what it likes in any case, but there it is.
By the way, the new head of the WHO is from HK. She famously bungled Sars here and refused to push China on under reporting Sars outbreaks. How the hell did she manage to clinch that top job? Reports here were bizzarre to say the least. Every comment seemed to suggest it was a big ups fro HK, but at the same time, all comments were along the lines of, “she didn’t get the job for her skills and abilities, but because of the very effective lobbying.” And they have the gall to celebrate it?
The widow of a Sars victim was reported as saying, (news she had won that WHO position) “is like a punch in the chest.”
But see thats exactly whats cherished the most in the UN and assorted related agencies. The ability to promote good PR for the organization, thus also to bring in necessary funding from marks, …I mean donors.
This is all about Communist China’s meddling and peddling of influence in the UN. China is already the Superpower in terms of diplomacy. They are masters of the game. No one now Taiwan is going to get anywhere inside of WHO now and that is what China was slightly worried about. This really makes he UN look like a joke. I admit, I am an not a UN expert, but didn’t I see that the majority or the world’s human rights violators were the ones in charge of that committee? I read something to that effect not too long ago. This is another example of something like that.
