Aside from the prosecution of politicians of all stripes for corruption or other bad behavior, it’s hard to discern what exactly is happening with this administration. They will, we know, be jacking up the cost of electricity—this will not make them more beloved, something like the pension reform move Tsai did early on in her presidency.
So what else are they up to? It’s hard to say. The added challenge is to figure out how much of the lack of apparent action at the national level is due to the KMT municipal governments ruling across from Taoyuan to Xinbei to Taipei to Keelung (assuming that George Hsieh does not get removed in the recall vote this week) as well as the fact that the KMT and TPP control the legislature. Will anything actually get done?
