I think most people are probably using word finder apps when they play anyway—especially non-native speakers, so that wouldn’t necessarily be a big problem. I could see the Wordle people using a combination of recycling and slightly harder words when they run out of words from their current database.
I hadn’t even considered that. That’s so bizarre to me, the idea of cheating at a game where you only compete against yourself and there is nothing to win. Doesn’t seem very satisfying. It would explain some of the consistently impressive results some people get, though.
