Thesis Survey Help

Hello all,

I’m a graduate imba student at Ming Chuan University running a study on Location Based Services and it’s market in relation to Taiwan’s Tourist Consumer. Some of you may know that in April Taipei is opening up wireless service ubiquitously. It’s a short questionnaire that should take roughly 10 minutes to complete. Being a poor college student, I can’t offer anything… but if you’re interested in the results, I’d be happy to share them with you once all the data has been acquired and analyzed. I really appreciate any and all help on this… thank you in advance!!

Ubiquitous wireless has been bandied around for Taipei since Ma was mayor. I thought it had been given up on as a white elephant. What’s the latest scheme and will foreigners be able to partake?

Hi nolza, I tried to do your survey, but it is definitely geared towards visiting tourists and I couldn’t answer some of the questions, such as my reason for “visiting” Taiwan (I’m married here). Sorry I can’t help you out and good luck with the survey.

Others of us may know that this bullshit has been touted since the Horse started his election campaign in 2008. Hasn’t happened. Choose another topic for your thesis is my advice. This one is nothing but yet another central government wankathon – what they’re best at, of course, but in the words of the late great Public Enemy: “Don’t believe the hype.”

I’m not very sure on the details, but it will be made available throughout all public areas. I found an article about it here if you wish to read a bit more on it. mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?160,10502,10502

As I understand, it will have a cap to prevent downloading of pirated materials and such~

@irishstu, thank you for the feedback … although this survey is geared towards “tourists” I am also administering this survey among taiwanese locals as well, so for that particular question, I would suppose the closest would be “work” for you. Anyhow, if you have anyone among your circle who applies to the survey, I would appreciate the referral

Took a look at your link, Nolza. Its an announcement from the city government. That same city government that has been bullshitting about this for nearly 5 years. Ho hum. More of the same.

@sandman, I understand where you’re coming from. But I know that the system has already been undergoing testing at various spots around Taipei. I realize it may not in fact actually happen in April, but this has been announced quite prominently through many media outlets in the past few months, so it does seem as if it will indeed “finally” happen at some point in the near future.

Whether or not this becomes reality is, of course another issue altogether… but I am very interested in doing research in seeing how this technology may be applied to bring value to Taiwan for visiting foreigners both long/short term.

This technology has already been widely adopted in the West, and Taiwan has been slow… I would say now is a good time.

Finished. Nice survey. Much of it doesn’t directly apply to me, but I could easily figure out what my attitude would be if it did. Some of the questions referred to things that I didn’t know much about, but that look like they might be pretty cool.

I was a little inaccurate, I guess, about intrusiveness, because if I thought I would really like something or benefit from it, I tended to put it in a lower intrusiveness category. I may have done that a little bit about privacy, too.

Seconded. That was a very nice survey. Very professional.

Alright. I did it. Where’s my ten grand?

Thanks very much everyone… I’ve accumulated 50 respondents so far, and will run through initial analysis hoops before gathering more. If you still haven’t submitted one, I would appreciate your contribution through the link in the first post. I will continue to leave the survey up live.

An additional update, I have confirmed that free wireless is now available throughout the MRT and select public locations. Quite exciting.
