Besides family and friends, growing up on a farm and being an outdoorsy kind of person, I really missed the 4 seasons. Even though I like the courtesy of Chinese, I also missed the straightforwardness and spontaneity of a lot of Americans. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I arrived at JFK airport in NYC and watched the easy going joking around among the airport staff (especially the African Americans). Fresh air and open space.
Granted it’s only been 5 minutes, but its very strange. I can honestly not think of a single thing that’s impossible to get and that I wish for. Maybe frosty days.

My gran.
Nude beaches, naturist clubs and resorts, and other such places where people of both genders can get naked in public without breaking the law.
Road trips in northern BC and the Yukon. Real road trips where you can drive for half an hour before you see another car, or dwelling, or power pole. Crisp frosty autumn days where you can jump on the ice in the puddles. Dirt bikes. Places to ride dirt bikes in your back yard. Having a back yard. Other ethnic communities where it’s easy to find weird stuff. Moosemeat and bannock. Health food stores that have everything you want and don’t charge so darn much. Canadian Beef. Lack of language barrier. Good sushi. Living in a house, not an apartment.
The stuff I don’t miss completely outweighs the list of stuff I do. Don’t get me wrong, I like it here.
Intelligent conversation.
Also, trashy diners that serve breakfast at 3:00 AM.
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
The Society for Creative Anachronisms.
Parking spaces galore (for free), and my truck.
Room to brew in. Room to grow hops. Room to lager my blonde bocks.
Garcia’s (Flying Tomato Brothers) pizza by the slice, and stuffed pizza
My 32" waistline.

There were such things here.
I know because I posted [url=Nudism in Taiwan thread[/url] about them.
The link is no longer working in that thread, so none of the pictures are there any more.
How sad.
Sandman, I saw your pics on flickr of your trip back home. Absolutely beautiful photos of the frost. That spiderweb… It reminded me of a magical kingdom, something like you would find in Narnia.
You mean diarrhea? You can get some twasai in taiwan too- just not from tacos- heh.
Screw Taco Bell. I need a Dos Pesos!!

- My dogs
- Visiting Dad for a cuppa and a chat
- My sanity

I missed those things on my first day here…!
fish and chip shops
hamburgers with the lot
battered savs
scallops
a real aussie pub
being able to talk about aussie politics
being able to talk about rock’n’roll
blue skies
starry nights
wide open roads
public politeness
being able to walk in a straight line when shopping
etc
