This virus is making me crazy

I have a new version of Norton. It is updated and active. It does a complete scan every day at 4am. Somehow, I picked up a virus that wants me to buy a Windows virus protection system. I think it is called Trojan.Packed.NSAnti I am going crazy trying to get rid of it. I have done full scans with my current Norton and it shows this virus as present but can’t remove it from “an unsupported file” whatever the hell that is. Norton keeps popping up that they are blocking other incoming problems. Everytime I go to Explorer, I get a screen showing that my computer is unprotected and offerring me a great deal on some protection software. WTF!!! Can anybody tell me what I should do about this. In two minutes I plan to turn the damn thing off and get drunk. AGAIN!
Damn!

No specific instructions, but whenever I get a stubborn virus that can’t be removed automatically, I google the virus’ name plus “removal.” I usually get a selection of tech forums that tell me exactly how to remove the virus and/or what programs will do so.

Try running some free web-based virus scanners, perhaps they can get rid of it. Else replace Norton.

Get rid of Norton. It is bloatware and worthless.

If you are going to pay for an Antivirus, I highly recommend ESET Nod32 or Avira AV Premium. Even the free version of Avira would be better than norton.

Other than that, run some web-based scanners (Trend Micro is good), get yourself Windows Defender (free download with windows) and run that.

If you are technie enough, you may look into HijackThis - that’s a bit more advanced and you’ll actually have to select the files to fix. There are forums and stuff to hold your hand, though.

Thanks for the tips. I will replace Norton. I am currently downloading some free removal stuff called AVG which seems to be progressing - slowly. I’ll update when and if I can git rid of this stuff. BTW, if anybody knows where I can find these guys, a friend of mine, Guido, would like to talk to them.

I ran the AVG scan and it found 35 threats where Norton found none. I had them removed. I’m sure most were unobtrusisive Spyware but non-the-less, I don’t want them and I had Nortoton programed to detect even a cockroach, yet I was infected. Word to the wise, trash Norton.
After my download with the free AVG, I seem to have gotten rid of the popups. However the univited toolbar remains. I know if I click on it to remove it, I will get re-infected. I tried a google search to remove unwanted toolbars and I got a return of some really great porno. Unwanted but it was pretty good. So now, I have a functional PC with a toolbar that is sitting like a viper, ready to bite, but hell, at least now the damn thing works. I will replace Nortons and thanks for all your help.

Try this one, free of charge: Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

just a thought but did you look for it under control panel add/remove software? also if you right click on the other toolbars you can probably deselect it.

Thanks for everybodies help. I tried as suggested and I’m sure I innadertantly removed some stuff that I want, but I know it will come back to ask me to install. What’s important is the unwanted toolbar is removed and I seem to have full functionality. Thanks to all you for your patience, suggestions and understanding. I’m not a techy but this was pretty easy thanks to you.
