Yikes—very powerful line: how to make a dollar out of people that only have a dollar.
In Canada, the dollar store dominates many a strip mall commercial landscape.
And on the very unequal social landscape of Vancouver Island, where ocean front opulence coexists in liberal guilt with fentanyl addiction on steroids and many a tent city, the dollar store becomes a freak show of easy access to sugary drinks, processed foods and hygiene products that make it a one stop shop for the addicted or folks looking for novelty or seasonal celebration items.
Why do I venture there from more protected enclaves? They sell a kitchen cleaner I don’t see in Europe all that much for 50 pence or around 90 cents Canadian —- comet. Very handy for cleaning. Pissed I only bought one last time I was on the island.
