Tiger Tasting with Tigerman

Ok, so this isn’t actually an event.
Yet.
But it seems it was, once.
I found this post of Tigerman’s, way back in the 1st beer directory.
Sounds amazing.
Tman, any chance of organizing one of these again?
Here’s the breakdown:

Ludwig Konig…NT$ 90 / bottle
Celis White…NT$ 50 / bottle
Pyramid Hefeweizen…NT$ 44 / bottle
Saison de Silly…NT$ 74 / bottle
Poperings Hommel…NT$ 57 / bottle
Granville Isl. Amber Ale…NT$ 44 / bottle
Granville Isl. Pale Ale…NT$ 44 / bottle
Granville Isl. Pilsner…NT$ 44 / bottle
Nastro Azzurra…NT$ 45 / bottle
Forbidden Fruit…NT$ 68 / bottle
Duvel…NT$ 67 / bottle
Arabier…NT$ 74 / bottle

Thus, the total is NT$ 701 per person.

Of course, if someone cannot drink all the beer, they can either take what’s left home or I’ll buy it back.
Sounds like a heckuva piss-up for sure.
I’m not sure where they held it.
Conveniently, the HH is happening soon, maybe we could pay a very small corkage fee and have it there?
Was anybody reading this at that legendary sounding first one?

Josefus,
You want someone else to organize a cheap booze up for you, and/or get to do it in a pub without paying the pub owner. You must be a Canadian.

Uh, I said we could pay a corkage fee.
And I’m not asking anyone to organize this for me, man.
Geez, you were that last person I expected to object to this. :s

Yes, you mentioned
a very small corkage fee
I’m not having a go at you, it’s just that the T Mon is busy with choosing music and blacking up for the Reggae night.

It’s called jealousy - I’m down deep south in betel-nut chewing territory. Perhaps it’s time for a drink. Cheers.

It is almost 2pm.
Crack one open.

PS-I don’t really care if it’s at a bar.
It was just a suggestion.
It could be at a beach, park, someone’s house, Jaiyi, anywhere…

I’ve been to one of Tigerman’s beer “tastings.” Wonderful craic! Bread, sausage, pickles, mustard, beers of ALL descriptions, great tunes…
I recall we even had a Norwegian brew. Good times.

In about 30 minutes I’m off to the yearly ‘Beer passion’ beer festival in Antwerp (Groenplaats), 3 days (June 20, 21, 22) of tasting and drinking about a 150 Belgian beers … I’ll try to make some pics to get you guy’s mouth fluids going …

Her’s a link … the web site is dutch but you can ‘mouse-over’ the map and see all the beers represented …

I’m baaaack … almost got drunk, really had to restrain myself … I’m lying, I’m drunk … had a great time and tasted lots of Belgian beers … met interesting ‘drunk’ people and had ‘serious’ conversations …

Isn’t that the one where someone decided to hike home at sunrise in the nude?

J,

I’d love to hold another tasting sometime… but currently I’m wicked busy with a million other things going on… and truth be told, the events that I held previously were not really tastings… we were drinking entire bottles of brew and eating large volumes of feed.

Another difficulty is that airlines are getting more strict on baggage weight. I go abroad several times each year and I used to bring back in my checked and carry-on baggage at least 24 bottles of beer, often large bottles, and if my wife and boy travelled with me, as much as two plus cases. Those days are past… can no longer bring beer back in carry-on and bags checked need to be under weight.

Another thing, for me… I don’t drink nearly as much beer as I used to… sure, when I travel I hit the pubs to drink brews not available here… but, these days in Taiwan I drink whisky. I’m struggling to regain the boyish figure of my distant past.

Crikey, Sandman, I just saw this thread and my mind drifted to exactly that list:

It was my first meeting of Tigerman and such a concentration of 'Mosans. Great company, and yes, I remember that bread defied Taiwan’s humidity and remained superbly crusty for that divine German sausage, mustard and pickle. And that Norwegian beer was made from an Arctic glacier. I don’t recall anyone walking home nude, but perhaps I can only remember the extraordinary events of that night.

HG

Yeah, that was the night of my naked hike.

Well, dang.
Maybe this event can’t be recreated. :frowning:

That brew was brought back from Norway to Taiwan by X3M. It is brewed by the northernmost brewery on the planet.

That was a fun night.

I wish my brother could bring over some of his excellent homebrews! He does a honey ale, a decent stout, a chocolate malt, something with a bit of smoked malt in, and a kind of hybrid lager/ale (lager yeast, but brewing temperature is closer to that of an ale). He’s also planning on gathering some heather for a heather ale.

There are some many exotic and interesting beers now. Something which I particularly like is the new breed of “whisky ales”, brewed in an oak whisky barrel. Wish we could get stuff like that over here. The only real beer tasting I do is once every two years in the UK.

Still, the local microbreweries are doing their best. Maybe we could organise a Forumosa night at a pub which sells their beers. There are a few in Taipei, aren’t there?
