Time for a new phone

Ok… I need a new phone and need help finding one…

Needs::
Inbuilt GPS … not the add-on bluetooth variety, but inbuilt like the Nokia N95
Stylus Input
English Menus but still can do Chinese when in English mode.
Camera would be nice, but doesn’t need to be the latest and greatest 5M or whatever…just for those emergency shots.

I like Nokias, don’t like Motorollas and am willing to try other brands (SE phones seem to be good)

Any advice?

Sony Ericsson W760i?

Nokia N95?

neither of those seem to have stylus inputs~ but thanks for the suggestions.

HTC TYTNII has all that.

+1 … love that phone … despite the video driver poor perf.

oooh yes, it does… and I’ve found it on yahoo auctions… BRILLIANT! Looks like this might be the phone I get. Thanx

That’s the phone I use. I don’t use it for video as I have an iPod Touch for that. The fast connection and wifi proved very useful during my trip to Tokyo for surfing and finding my location via GPS on Google Maps, and it’s got Plecodict installed in case I want to look up a character.

ok well in an act of random kindness, my wife has gone out and bought me a TyTNII

I must say that it definately seems a very good phone - but GARGH~! how do I get the dayum thing into English?

you can check around that forum http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser.
Plenty of good wiki, threads and goodies in there.
Although I prefered to keep mine in CHT … didnt want to corrupt the ROM too much.
I did install a couple of apps to make life easier.

Ok, well I’ve decided to stay with the Chinese OS for now. It’s just a pain in the butt when going through settings really. Otherwise I am loving the phone except for one small little problem::

I removed the SD card from it and put a friend’s in to copy some MP3s over. Ok. Put mine back in, looks ok - until I try and use PapaGo. The link in the “TODAY” section (main desktop screen) comes up and says “PapaGo does not exist.” Yet, I can still browse with explorer to the SD card and open PapaGo that way.

any help?

You need to “refresh” the today screen…
Goto control panel > today > then the tab listing the shortcuts appearing in the today screen and simply hit OK (papago should still be checked)
That should do it (it does on mine :sunglasses: )

In this category of phone, does have anyone have an HTC Touch Cruise or ASUS P750?
The Tytn2 has a good feature set but it is a bit bulky.

mmm thanks for the tip, but it doesn’t work. I’ve tried OKing it, unchecking it then checking it before OKing it… uncheck - ok - check - ok… all the same “Papago does not exist.” In English too for some strange reason. Stick it in the start menu and it comes up with a lengthy “Papago does not exist” but in Chinese…

Seriously though - apart from that, that’s the only issue I can think of right now~ It’s a great phone. Had it out for a whole day yesterday snapping pictures - took a ton (got a 1G card with it) and still had 1/3 battery left at the end of it.

Then… sorry… cant help you more than that… you should check on xda-developers forums… those guys might have your answer. Great forum for that phone.

Talking about the camera… dont you feel it a little slow ? I am not talking about the auto-focus, just about the response after the focus.
For me, this is the only drag. Everything else is simply working great.

had a browse through the xda forums over the weekend - they don’t have my problem in there… and I’m still waiting for the activation email so that I can post

as for the camera - yes it is slow… but what you do is activate the camera… then put the phone in standby for a few seconds and then out of standby again… works a treat… neat little trick I found while browsing it
