I am planning to propose to my girlfriend sometime in the months after Chinese New Year and i’m wondering how the timescale generally works out with regards to the 3 ‘weddings’ that will likely follow. The 3 being 1) Registry office proceedure in Taiwan 2) Wedding in Taiwan 3) Wedding in my home country. I have friends who had a gap of 6 or so months between 2) and 3) so that gives me some idea there. However i’m a bit clueless about the normal gap between 1) and 2). I have a feeling it’s only a gap of a week or so normally right?
Basically I want to marry my girlfriend and also want to move her into my house as quick as possible (not possible while unmarried). Have any of you ever heard of a couple doing the official Registry office procedure and then having the Taiwan wedding several months later? - i guess that’d be my ideal solution but will that take away from the whole excitement of the wedding, the fact that we’ve been walzing around as a married couple for a few months before hand?
My wife and I got married officially 15 months before the church wedding/wedding banquet. We had been living together before that, so there were no more eyebrows to raise.
Like Maoman, we had our wedding reception well after our registration. It was a year for us. Our families were fine with that. Last week I went to a reception for a local couple who have been married officially for at least 2 years, and they have been living together for some time.
Me and the (now ex) went to the court house and got officially married in the morning and promptly headed to the Lunch reception. All in one go. Easy peasy.
We did the official registry thing only. We’ll possibly do a small Taiwan banquet thing sometime this year, although as my wife only has a very small family here, it’ll be very low-key. No intention of doing a wedding in Australia (my country of origin).
So which wedding anniversary do you celebrate? The official court registry or the wedding banquet date??
My wife and I registered on Dec 15 but married on Dec 28. For our first year’s anniversary, we celebrated on Dec 28. I’m just curious what everyone’s ‘official’ date is if the registry is different from the banquet date.

Newly wed?? Congrats!! Who is the photographer for the banquet?? Forumosans can land up (fox, paogao, moi, belgian pie, Igor etc. and new to youtube star BOB) and take their own pics and you will have different ‘angles’ of the reception. Talk about off topic!
My husband being the practical guy that he is, arranged the court registration and the banquet on the same date, one year apart… on his birthday. He will never forget our anniversary, and we have no issues about which date to celebrate.
