This past weekend notice that all over my house in different locations I have spotted very small brown bugs. They’re about half a mm in size, look a little like miniature termites, but I know they aren’t. I’m pretty sure they aren’t bed bugs either. I see them on the walls, in the corners on the floor, on wood furniture, even crawling around the electric outlets, there freaking everywhere. What the hell are they? I would post photos, but they are just too darn small to photograph with my current camera and lens combo.
Probably weavils, just like this one:
They carry a very real threat of general annoyance, but aside form that, nothing else.
Check your kitchen and make sure that they are not infesting your flour or rice hoards - something is attracting them to your abode.
I was researching weevils but these bugs are so much smaller. They are like the size of a speck of dusk. In fact, the first time I spotted them I thought they were specks of dust until I saw them move. But they do kinda resemble the body shape of the weevil picture you posted above.
There was something else and I have been trying to think about what they are since I read your post earlier, but I can’t remember the name of them. They are as you say smaller than weavils, and they bite. Not bedbugs.
Give me a while and I might come up with them.
Maybe lice?
Not lice. I have seen them in every apartment I have live in Taiwan. They’re usually found on damp surfaces, or in dusty corners of the house, I’ve seen them on our curtains as well. But as of late they are just popping up everywhere even though its been relatively dry these few days.
Nowadays hairy tiny ants are also common in Taipei. They move very quick. If these are the ones then buy Ant killer at wellcome .
a bug bomb would probably cure the problem if they’re annoying you.
After talking to some coworkers today, I found out what kind of bugs they are. They are called Liposcelis bostrychophilus (aka booklice, paper lice), so Jimi looks like you were right after all. Seems like they are very common problem in Taiwan. And it seems that these past few days of warm weather has created a perfect environment for them to breed. Luckily they aren’t harmful to humans like their cousins the head lice.
At least it wasn’t crabs, buddy. Those things are a bugger.
Tell me about it. A lot of hassle for the amount of meat that you get in return.
Thought I’d put this here. I just found this thread after getting to the bottom of the mystery of what’s crawling on the walls since… forever. Booklice. Liposcelididae. My actual photos that I took next to a ruler and calculated the exact pixels per mm of to get their exact size, then unsharp-masked the photos in Photoshop.
