Dealerships pay about 30 an hour for techs and 50 an hour for senior techs but charge customers 300 dollars an hour
Non dealership garages charge bout 150 an hour here in the Bay Area and probably pay their techs 15 to 30 an hour

Yes, but the numbers are at least better in Taiwan. More like in taiwna they get 40k/month and charge customers 400 for cleaning a windows haha.
My brake issue is solved. Maybe. He said a leak in the oil. Asked where, he doesn’t know. Told me to monitor the oil lev…lol, Okey donkey, not a retard. Where is the leak? No idea.
4 hours, 10k later I have a topped up clutch and brake fluid. And I must say, my windshield is actually very clean. Well done boys, well done…
this I find hard to believe. Maybe 20 ago
I mean you’re there, I’m not
You mean you think it’s more ? That they pay techs more ?
Let me ask a friend of a friend .
I do know audi dealers charge around 300 an hour some dealers a bit more some less. Non premium brands maybe a bit less
Non dealer garages tend to be less but are anywhere from 150 to 200 an hour
Other states may vary we are talking around where I live the Bay Area
Many gas stations have a garage operation attached to them which are usually owner operated I like these as they tend to be even less.
They may hire non documented possibly non qualified help with the owner himself who is usually a mechanic directing the work
And these can be good or bad
Gotta find a good one
But I usually only go there for stuff like oil changes and brake jobs
More dedicated work I may go to more qualified places and at worse go to dealers
My Acura went 17 years without an A/c problem but my Prius is not cooling when it’s hot
I don’t know if the radiator fan is out or a fuse is out or the A/c needs a recharge
A recharge means a leak and that is a problem
So I’m debating with myself if I should go to my regular garage mech or to a dealer
Well I hope he put brake fluid in the brakes and not motor oil
Not knowing where the leak is is not solving the problem
But I guess if the brakes work now and the fluid level doesn’t go down other than very slowly as the pads wear you are good to go….and to stop
admittingly I don’t know what the mechanics, or techs are paid. I’d hope $50/hr min but don’t know. I defer to you.
Let me ask a friend who works as a tech
I think 50 an hour is not for junior techs but more for seasoned ones
I don’t think they get 100 an hour though
And I don’t know how many hours they get per month
I don’t think they have enough jobs to work 8 hour days but not sure
Will report back what I hear and this is only going to be hear say not fact fact
Yeah looks like you are right
Last I asked iwas 20 years ago come to think of it
My guy is a salesman at an audi store not a tech but he says he’s pretty sure they get 70 to 130 an hour depending on skill level
And many are salaried and make 100k plus a year
So it’s a good field to get in to !!
I should have done that !!
Why would you expect the dealer to show you that?
Discount tires will patch your tires for free.
Maybe on some specific jobs where they do the work at much less time than book time, but no way, overall.
Because I bought their brand and they are the authorized mechanics for the brand. I had asked the dealership when buying, but that guy didn’t want to scuff his shoes to bend down.
Much like a phone, I want to know how it works so I can maintain it. This is common sense, I’m not asking for their computer access… being able to check fluid levels is beyond simplistic necessity it shouldn’t need explaining. For any machine.
Companies that were once great and now are shit, like John deere has a similar issue. Not everyone lives next to the mechanic nor wants to pay for them to come to the location. Yet the manufacturer seems to thunk this is “customer service”. No customer would agree, is a money grab.
Show me the tranny stick! Or glass or whatever the hell it is now. We need to be able to check as to not fuck up expensive parts and have them serviced. Unlike the company, I expect a minimum 300k from a well maintained truck. Minimum. Them making it hard for the customer/user to check basic fluids ain’t a great sign the manufacturer wants them to have a solid machine.
Come to think of it I don’t know if my Prius or TT has a way to check the tranny for the layman
whatabout for the non layman. It’d be the same, right?
*secret dipstick under plastic or lil window?
or a screen for the layman
Yes according to Google one can check trans fluid on TT and on Prius but vehicle should be lifted
Suggest mechanic only
On the subject of air pressure after ten years and 145000 miles I think I found the right air pressure for the Prius
34 front and 34 rear (placard says 35/33) and I usually don’t adhere to having pressure same front and rear as front engined cars tend to require 2 psi more than on rears and vice versa rear engined cars . So it’s a departure in my regular approach but in this case 34/34 seems to be the magic tire pressure. The Prius being underpowered and rough riding in the front due having a gas engine and an electric motor and sn inverter all in front. Even as little as one psi less in front made a ride difference while reducing rolling resistance from the tires remain important for the engine to properly work since it’s challenged in the first place. The two motors combined only coming up with 100hp. So making the rears one psi more helped in the rolling resistance and 34/34 just seems to work in this case ! I find myself zipping on city streets with a new found verve . Keeping up with teslas even in 19th avenue
The front is a bit less rigid and the back end firms up just a wee bit so the bounce is near similar front amd rear and I think it’s the right combo for this car and the car zips too (much as a Prius can zip)
It’s actually fun to drive especially in the city
I’m
Grooving it
It is causing me to zip more quickly because the drive is more fun but I’m getting mpg 40 now instead of 48
If you live in the ice lands, you would also be checking based on temperature, 4x4, delivery trucks etc psi is very important, always good to check. The little pens are cheap. New cars, even work trucks, tend to have dashboard readouts but I don’t trust the sensors given how cheap things are built now. The truck I’m driving now has had to reset computer twice, not even 50k on it.
Here is the readout now, it ranges about 5 psi depending when I turn the truck on lol. Sometimes no reading. I had the truck fully serviced 2 days ago at the dealership…
#quality
I meant this kind of stick to check pressure haha.
Your stick is for releasing pressure.
wasnt that what truckers used to use to “check” tires? And anyone that might piss them off?
Not sure how common their use is, but yeah. Many moons ago I did see a big rig driver going around his truck with one.
Probably more common for self defense.
Pros can probably guess tire pressure with the sound it makes ?
