Tkacik's Glorification of Dulles in Taipei Times

So once again the Taipei Times has an editorial

John J. Tkacik On Taiwan: John Foster Dulles and The Handshake that Never Was.
…he was a staunch defender of democracy in Asia, he was committed to the protection of Taiwan…

Just, no. The Dulles brothers, the Eisenhower administration, and the extremely powerful China Lobby, were staunch defenders of the Chiang Kai-shek regime because they were opposed to Mao Tse-tung and Communist China. They were also strongly opposed to democratization or any hint of independence in Taiwan, smearing anyone who opposed the KMT dictatorship as either outright communists, or at best fellow travellers. That the Times keeps publishing Tkacik’s attempts to rewrite history is pathetic- sometimes the enemy of my enemy is not my friend, just an enemy from a different direction.

Reads like something from 60 years ago, much like Dulles

Yeah, remember way back when the KMT didn’t like the Chicoms?
