To apply for resident visa (ARC), or not? (digital semi-nomad)

True. We don’t condone breaking any laws.

Yes. The IRS is an unforgiving master.

I knew someone in the past that worked remotely from a US based company and would move around every couple of weeks to a new country. Because he met physical presence test (330 in a foreign country) he could legally use foreign tax exclusion, and because he never stayed very long in a given country, he never hit any tax reporting requirements and looked straight up like a tourist (probably violated work permit requirements in his visited countries, but I mean, literally no one is going to bust him for being on his laptop while sipping coffee in a cafe). Guy was living the life, AND banked a ton of cash cuz of his minimal tax.

Not sure why this was a reply to me…but good for your friend. They still need to file a tax return in the US.

Oh woops that should have been to the guy you replied to, misclick. Yeah he filed every year (at least that’s what he said). I could never figure out if he ever could get in trouble for it, but it looks like it’s pretty fool-proof.
