To bring or not to bring my cat?

Hi

I am taking a year off and will be moving to Taiwan. I will be travelling every 3 months while I am there, but am still wondering what to do with my cat here in HK. I would really love to bring him with me, but need to understand whether it is really sensible to do, or cruel.

I need to consider:

  1. How easy it is to import a cat into Taiwan - I saw a thread and will need to read more when I have time.
  2. Are there catteries or cat sitters who can take care of him when I go away? How hard is it? I could actually find a helper/maid and have her come in more/or stay when I travel, which is what I do here in HK and he seems to be happy with that.
  3. Do landlords normally allow pets? I intend to rent a studio or small flat for a year.

Appreciate your answers to the above. I will decide based on what I think is best for him. I might have to find him a foster for a year here, but I think he will be stressed as well, as he only knows one person…me…since he was a baby.

Thank you.

I can only answer Q3. Some do and some don’t.

Q1. if you need a pet passport to enter you may need at least 6-7 months before you travel. I don’t know the laws so I suggest you find the time and read the thread.
But the threads here can be confusing and frustrating as there is a load of different information from people.
You could contact an agent in HK and ask them. They should know the procedure. That is what I would do before you read any thread on here.
