Togs - Where to buy in Taichung without them costing an arm & a leg

Abridged Version!

Anyone know where/if it’s possible to get togs in Taichung? I’ve seen bike pants, speedos and possibly wearable ones for $3,600 which is just ever so slightly outside my budget. Ideally I could just use running shorts, they’re cheap and look like my togs back home for crying out loud, but I’m told that’s unsanitary and won’t be permitted :frowning: Hopefully if I pack togs next time I won’t be prevented from swimming. If I can pick something up in the meantime though …

No no, over the ditch uses the term too. Except where they talk about cossies, or bathers or um …

Problem is swimsuit isn’t quite so user friendly to me! :slight_smile: Maybe I should have tried um youyong de duanku (游泳的短褲) assuming my Chinese is right?

Nice to know there’s a Southern presence here. Indonesia’s the southernmost I’ve run into so far in RL. Are you from the mainland? :saywhat:

Glad someone translated because I have no idea what “togs” are. Swimming trunks, swimsuits, Speedos… these I understand.

I suppose this is related to the bizarre Taiwanese obsession with making men wear skin-tight swimsuits in pools and hot springs as opposed to looser beach trunks. This trend appeared perhaps five years ago, and I have yet to come across a satisfactory explanation. The “more sanitary” excuse doesn’t make sense… water will still be exposed to people’s ball sacks and ass cracks no matter what they wear.

You might be able to find a relatively cheap pair at a shop in a hot spring hotel/resort.

Yeah, I grew up in QLD on the Gold Coast and we called 'em togs as kids…and my nieces and nephews still do! :smiley:
