Tommy and Tammy’s bay area (and other) adventures

In Taiwan it would have cost 250 dollars too. NT dollars.

Yeah that’s retarded, also shows how regarded the Obamacare debate is when it’s health treatment costs that are the real problem!

A relatively happy ending! :astonished:

In the UK we pay higher taxes for the NHS so don’t think about the real costs involved.

One thing when health issues are “commercialized”, I wonder, is how trustworthy health care becomes at all. Are they sending you home cheaply because they do not want to “waste” or spend resources on you? Or will they let a small thing grow big or even lie to you about the severity of a condition so to squeeze all the money they can? I ask because my relatives in US are always calling back to my brother and other medical members of the family for second opinions. But since they are still imprinted with our more “socialist” system -more similar to Taiwan’s than US I mean- then I cannot tell if their impressions are true or influenced by previous life.

If you have Netflix, watch the documentary called “American Addict.” This will give you some insight into how the pharmaceutical industry corrupts the medical system / doctors, which affects trust in the American system.

Don’t have it but trust your word it is not only my relatives’ perception.

It is a messy and highly corrupted system, one which as an American I will avoid for the rest of my life!

The pharmaceutical is the real ‘drug’ business and in fact legal drugs are abused more than illegal drugs ie there are more people addicted to them and more money spent than on cocaine or heroin etc

All Americans, and legal foreign residents, are obligated to have comprehensive health insurance. It is the law.

Let me rephrase: insurance that really works, and won’t let you hum mmm when needed. Not all health insurance companies over there are, how can we put it, trustworthy, as per my family members.

Geez, I don’t think ANY of them are trustworthy! They’re businesses with highly questionable ethics and it is sure to get worse.

Health Care in the USA is ridiculously expensive, but at least on the plus side, they did take really good care of her. Private room, nurse hovering close by. Attendant to wheel her in her bed down to the CT scan and back. Everyone very polite. Doc coming by to check on her on the hour. Was a first class operation Kaiser hospital was.

And they took a battery of tests and a lot of man-handling to ensure she did not have appendicitis.

Here she is after 3 hours of treatment, feeling a lot better and cellfone back in hand reporting to her family back in Indonesia.

And you came out of it as a dependable guy, someone who is with her on the good times and the bad times. Kudos to Tommy.

yeah, i drove her to the hospital myself and saved FIFTY BUCKS  (copay, otherwise the ride would have been 500 bucks in an ambulance).

(wait did that make me sound …cheap ? ) :noway:

My cat has become better behaved with her since shes been here (4 months now). But she still has these hissey fits with him.

He hisses at her and she gets mad all day at him and won’t speak to him. Shouts at him in fact. Which is all wrong when it comes to cat training. I believe you can do that with a dog, a dog will understand but cats don’t work like that. But then yes, he has learned to work with her better and generally seems to be nicer, having someone home all the time. But still I think cat training and dog training are not the same. The cat books I’ve read have said that the way to train your cat is :

  1. Never hit the cat, even with a rolled up newspaper (which is the ONLY thing one can hit a dog with by the way, never anything that will harm the dog). Luckily she does not hit him.

  2. Do not shout at your cat. Shouting at dogs seem to be ok I think, but cats revert to their wild nature if shouted at often and just get more aggressive. She shouts at him if he misbehaves and i think that is counter productive.

I keep explaining but all that does is gets ME in the dog house  .

Yesterday was the second time she has successfully taken him for a walk on her own. And whopper has been obedient. But I came home after work and they are not on speaking terms. Whopper is under the bed and refused to come out and she’s Miss Grumpy.

He must feel it odd on some days where he can’t get any attention from her, and on other days hes flooded with too much attention. I think cats simply can’t understand that.

I’ve read that the way to get them to behave is to talk to them, explain the error of their ways repeatedly until they modify their behavior. Shunning them and worse, shouting at them will make them MORE evil, not less.

But? Works with dogs apparently, or not?

I had that kind of thing a few years back with my cat (who was also rather plump) when my girlfriend of the time moved in. They hated each other for a couple of weeks, but were fine after that. Two females competing for your attention and domination in the house, neither of them are going to back off. Your wife is the alpha female (being slightly bigger), so I guess she’ll win !

Ah, I just realised Whopper’s a dude. Ah well, that’s my theory down the drain …

Yes a dude but still a feline, and there’s always that connection between felines and female.

But anyway they made up, as they always do. She pretended he didn’t exist and he pretended the same, but this morning he gave up and came over to her and got a lot of petting.

NO male of any species can stand up to a female (of any species?)

Another example of how ridiculous health care is in the UsA !Q!

Tommy, have you been to KitTea yet?
