I forgot about Animal House. That one deserves to be on the list.

My revised list:

1 Holy Grail
2 Blazing Saddles
3 Animal House
4 Bananas
5 Duck Soup
6 Love and Death
7 Young Frankenstein
8 Airplane!
9 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid
10 Dumb and Dumber
11 Peewee’s Big Adventure
12 Ghostbusters

I forgot about Stripes…the scene with Harold Ramis teaching English to a classroom of foreigners was priceless. Especially if you’ve taught in Taiwan.

Got to have Blazing Saddles in there. Mel Brooks, comedic genius as is Peter Sellers. I’m glad to see A Fish Called Wanda in there. That was gut-splitting funny. My ex-roomate and I used to talk to each other using lines from that movie. I think I saw it like 10 times plus owning the video and the script.

Well, I think you all missed an absolute belter. QUICKCHANGE, with Bill Murray, Randy Quaid, and Geena (Im shit in everything else) Davies. It is a proper laugh riot. It’s visually funny, and quotable till the cows come home. “You could have helped me, but you gave me so much more.” (Murray to incomprehensible road crew)

so, coupled with PeeWee’s big adventure, which makes me want to die laughing, here is my list.

Joint number 1: Quickchange and PeeWee’s big adventure.
2: Dumb and Dumber. (Lloyd, your hands, they’re freezing!)
3: The Big Lebowski. (Shut the fuck up, Donny)
4: Animal House. (I’m a zit)
5: Mallrats. (Biggidy bong)
6: The wonder boys.
7: As good as it gets.

Comedy must be good to watch and good to hear. Thats why so many films seem to be too dumb, especially if Jack Black is involved, then its all about the visuals.

One of my top ten not mentioned . . . Orgazmo. The often forgotten story of Mormon Joe Young’s journey from missionary to porn legend to super hero as told by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Did that ever bring back memories. I had this poster on my wall at one point in my life. Very funny movie.

Of course The Party was Sellers’ masterpiece, but he did do another one in 1979 called Being There. Not as slapstick and stereotypical as the humor in The Party, it showed the true genius of PS. I’d have to say he is in the top three of comedic actors, right behind Buster and Charlie. 4th place goes to Bill Murray with Jack Black coming up fast.

That said, I’d have to add School of Rock to my all time top ten list. And while we are tapping the musical cinema vein, how about The Blues Brothers? “They can’t stop us. We’re on a mission from God.”

bob,

What the hell was funny about Blue Velvet? That would make my list of top ten most disturbing films.

Still Crazy. Much, much funnier than Spinal Tap, School of Rock, Blues Brothers or any of those others.

“Hello Belgium!”
“It’s Holland, you prick.”

And looking at the above, what about The Full Monty?

What, no mention yet of Austin Powers?:saywhat:
Shall we shag now or shall we shag later?

Oh behaaaaaaaaaaave!! yeeeeah…YEAH BABY YEAH!!

6 Love and Death
7 Young Frankenstein
8 Austin Powers
9 Airplane!
10 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid
11 Dumb and Dumber
12 Peewee’s Big Adventure
13 Ghostbusters

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was one of the funnier trash movies I can remember from my youth.

“I don’t wanta sound like a queer or anything, but I think Unicorns kick ass!”

Care to explain yourself here young lady? :fume:

Are you saying that the angst and emotional trauma of these brave young souls, struggling to find love and meaning as they come of age in a confusing world are not serious? Are we to simply dismiss the meloncholy confusion, the vulnerable searching, the tender friendships, the heartache lightened with shining wit and laughter, and the ultimately inspirational moral lessons these films offered us? These films touched the lives of a generation and offered hope and guidance to millions. And you would have us dismiss them as mere comedies. :snooty:

Yeah Breakfast Club is a classic, but belongs in the “Best 80s Movies” Thread.

Take the Money and Run.

The scene where Virgil Starkwell (Woody Allen) is playing the cello in a marching band and has to run a few paces, sit down, play a note and then get up and do it again in order to keep up with the band makes me tear up to no end.

I usually don’t watch funny movies, so I’m surprised that I actually came up with a few. I tend to be amused by the semi-pathetic/semi-heroic types like Steve Martin characters and Homer Simpson. And I don’t like haha movies or toilet humour. Dumb and Dumber. No. Here goes:

  1. Pulp Fiction
  2. Zoolander
  3. Wayne’s World
  4. The Waterboy (because of Vicky Valerie)
  5. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
  6. Delicatessen
  7. Dr. Strangelove
  8. Father of the Bride/Parenthood

Damn, I need two more. Maybe the oldest and ONE of the newer The Texas Chainsaw Massacres (there was another funny zombie movie in a mall recently). But that’s not really top ten.

Still thinking.
