Just curious as to where people have traveled and to what cities they most enjoyed. Although I’m by no means the world’s most well traveled individual, I have seen a fair bit and my top five would go:
Best cities (based purely on my having a good time and enjoying the people and touristic sights).
Quebec City
Prague
Lyon
Hong kong
Reykjavik (Iceland) / Leuven (Belgium)
While I certainly enjoy London, New York, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Amsterdam, I think the above are my absolute favorites.
The award for the most polluted, least benign, frustrating and clogged city goes to:
San Diego -sun, surf, taquitos
Basel - Art, carnivals, trade, 3 countries in one city
Lyon - Great party town
San Francisco - A treat
Taipei - well, y’all know
Hanoi - surprised no one else has mentioned it.
Sydney - I’ll be quaffing beers at the Bondi Icebergs on Sunday arvo.
Pondicherry - fond memories, madness and fever.
Bangkok - erh, fondle mammaries (joking).
Paris - more fond memories.
Capetown - The sea air, the food, the shopping
Las Vegas - The gambling, the silly shows, the fact you can carry your drink everywhere
Bangkok - The food, partying and cheap massages
Hong Kong - never ceases to amaze me each time I visit
Savannah - a little too touristy now, but you really do bump into everything in “the Book”
in no particular order:
Cape Town - sun, sea, mountains, wine, food
Hanoi - Asia with a European touch
Paris - markets, cafes, brasseries and France on your doorstep
Copenhagen - Danes, winters, jazz
and then torn between the beauty of Sydney and the sheer sleaze of Bangkok.
Worst Place? Easy - Manila. There MUST be some nice parts of Manila, but I always see grime, urban decay, crushing poverty, corruption, pollution, and traffice jams. However, the islands are so beautiful that one can almost forgive the Philippines for having such a God-forsaken capitol.
