What does 歐樂肥 mean? I think I know, but I just want to be certain.
I didn’t know this before but I was curious and Googled it. It seems to be a variant of “歐羅肥” (ouluofei), which is a Hanji transliteration of “Aurofac”, a brand of animal feed supplement made by the American Cyanamid Company and formerly marketed in Taiwan. During the 1960s or 70s in Taiwan one of their corporate promotional goods was a metal lunchbox bearing the brand name Aurofac “歐羅肥便當盒” (ouluofei biandanghe). Kids who brought their lunch to school in this lunchbox would get teased that their parents were trying to (or succeeding in) fattening them up (like pigs). By extension the term seems to have come to be associated with being pudgy, and tends to be used in a cute or mildly teasing way.
