對不起我的中文不好

From Bristol, England, I believe. Nice band, nice guys. I also believe they are currently in Taiwan.

Did a search for the band (Transition) on YouTube and found some interesting songs of theirs. There was even one video of a group of foreigners (a Mandarin class?) singing this song. I got a great laugh out of this song over the weekend. I’d love to see one of their performances. Steviebike, fill us in if you know where they might be playing.

Gosh! I DO hope they all have the requisite visas for such performances. Although the drummer should be deported forthwith on account of that terrible hat.

Yep. Not a fly by night band. They have been coming to Taiwan for many years now. I’ve seen them live in Bristol and a documentary about their journey as western musicians in Taiwan. They have a long journey ahead. They have a Facebook page I do believe. http://www.facebook.com/transitiontw This seems to be the most up-to-date place. Will keep you updated if I hear anything.

It’s like musical Chinese lessons… more!

My kids turned this into a roleplay…

Mum, you be a Taiwanese person working in Taiwan, I’ll be a…a…you know someone not from Taiwan, and I’ll ask for you some 睡覺. And you’ll say, “What’s wrong, are you tired?..” They also turned a milkcan into a drum and walked around singing this all afternoon. Catchy song.

My daughter also liked the song. As far as role playing is concerned, I don’t need to imagine, fantasize, role play, etc. because this is my life every day. I just found out this morning that I’ve been saying orange juice (柳橙汁) with the wrong tones all this time. I’ve been saying it with second tone, second tone, first tone and of course the correct way is third tone, second tone, first tone. After the clerk behind the counter repeated my order to the other clerk, I realized my mistake. I almost felt like breaking out in song…對不起我的中文不好.

Which goes to show this is a stupid, gimmicky song that lacks substance. This band:

I think it’s nice to have some fun, gimmicky songs in your life. What’s wrong with a bit of silly if all parties know it to be so?

I grew up in Kansas City with good blues and jazz music playing all around me. There’s a Charlie Parker memorial with a statue of Bird a block away from where I went to college. My Dad had West Coast jazz playing in the house all the time. My (much) older brother couldn’t get enough of 70s and 80s fusion. I think we all know the proper place for this this song in the grand scheme of things (notice I said song and not group). Sheesh. We were all having a nice little chat about a funny song that we could all relate to. Talk about The Evil Popcorn Man ruining the mood:

I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that everyone should only say positive things about YouTube clips that people posts on this forum.

My bad

In what way is it gimmicky? Doesn’t match your personal taste in music? You dont like westerners using their chinese in music?

If you have to ask, you’ll never know.

This is the documentary that Transition made about some of their time in Taiwan and being the band that they are.

I like the comment somebody left on the Youtube video: “沒關係,我的英文也不好”

If you know, you need only ask.

I saw Josh(one of the band members) couple times at the church. I did not know he is in a band until now.
