飢餓中

What does 飢餓中 mean? I know it has to do with hunger, but since it has 3 characters, I’d like to be sure. Thanks.

中 indicates the verb/situation is on going. 飢餓中 would translate to “i’m hungry”, “i’m still hungry” or since the subject is omitted in the original text, “being hungry” or “still hungry”

Since the Chinese is a little formal and abstract, I’d do the same for the English translation: “in a state of hunger.”

I’d read this more as “in the midst of famine”, but without a larger context, it’s hard to say.

What’s the context?

Another possibility is “starving”.

All of these seem equally correct in the absence of context. I’d say 飢餓 suggests being famished, and 中 as all note an ongoing state.

if that’s someone’s fb or line or what ever status, it means you can probably go over there and feed that person…

One of my students had something similar on his fb page. He translated it as “hungering”.

Probably the only translation that really won’t work… :unamused:
