I am such a looser! Have I really wasted that much time here?
Gus, mate. Take it down!

Yes, but it’s the post to word ratio that’s more interesting…
Could you put the word/post ratio, the waffle factor, on the member list so we can see who the most waffly poster is ? I guess it’s Fred Smith with a waffle factor of 172.69, I’m lean, mean, and to the point at 39.62. Even Stragbasher seems to have a lot to say at “116 average words per post” (and 27 crappy words)
Orange+Blue is very concise at 5.83 words and a bouncy face per post.
What’s more interesting is the posters who have a post count in double digits and a word count of 0. Or the ones who have a word count lower than their post count. Now there’s a puzzle for you.

It’s LOSER. What’s a looser?
highest ratio i have seen is about 400 words per post. any guesses? shouldn’t be too hard, i’d wager there’s no one above 100 posts with a higher ratio.
Stragbasher, obviously.
A more relaxed kinda person.

Fluffy has too much time on his hands again. Did you really sit there going through everyone’s numbers and calculating how waffly they were? Looser!
If we accept Fluffy’s reasoning then giving a long detailed answer providing solutions to a problem and discussing questions arising makes you a waffler, while a one-word answer makes you concise.
I make my living persuading people not to give one-word answers, because one word answers are generally not sufficient. Communication, the sharing of ideas, requires the use of words to express those ideas. (And bouncy faces, of course.)
You may not like what Fred Smith has to say, but at least you know what he means. Orange+Blue, on the other hand, is incomprehensible. And what about Sandman?
Or maybe I am, in the immortal words of The Dude, just not into the whole brevity thing?
Fascinating! I make my living persuading people not give long answers ![]()
(…not trying to start an argument here… in fact, SB’s one of my favorite writers on forumosa)
Fascinating
Thank goodness for the four word game or three word story thing, otherwise, I’d be revealed for the long-winded bag of hot air that I am…
Phew! My word ratio’s still acceptable.
I think it would be more interesting to see how many members are ignoring a poster rather than “Total Words.”

But keep it anonymous, so the most ignored members can’t ignore others simply because those members are ignoring them.
Can we include an automatic calculation that shows the ratio? For lazy people like me?
Thanks.
Just posting to see my ratio.
I’m a loser.
This should be doable for two reasons:
To get it done, we need to figure out how to pull (or calculate) the number of people on your ignore list and stick it either here on the left or on your profile page.
If anyone can give me the code, please lmk ![]()
Actually, there is a link to do this for yourself, but I’ve hidden it out of fear that it would just make our over-worked server work that much harder. It took 10~15 minutes to calculate the entire over-100 post membership.
I’ll bring this up with Maoman and see we can then decide if the personal recalc link should be available.

Clicking on the user’s profile gives you the average.
Very cool way to see who are the more verbose posters…Can’t wait till I hit a quarter million words…only 20,000 more to go. That’s like only 20 more posts for me. Very cool feature. Okay, I need a few more words to help maintain my average of about 103 words per post. No, I’m just kidding, but not about the number of words in my posts. I think the 4-word game thread has brought down the numbers of a few people. It’s a unique feature. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it featured on other boards before. I can see how it could come in really handy if, for instance someone has 3,000 posts and only 50,000 words. Like someone who says, “Me too” or “I totally agree” way too often.
Are there any other bells and whistles coming our way?
