Traffic cameras

Only Taipei as far as I am aware however all other areas have websites. The websites are probably easier anyway as you can auto translate if you don’t read (police) Chinese.

I thought so too when it happened to me in Kaohsiung since there was a swarm around me, buggers cropped the photo with just my scooter and sent the fine.
I filed an administrative appeal asking to see the entire photo which was denied.

I think the fine was sent to everyone in the picture

Taichung has those mobile ones too, fortunately the law says they must sign it with a camera warning, so just keep your eye out for a red triangle with camera picture.

It’s about time Taiwan gets these cameras

Sensor fusion technology brings the information flows of both radar and camera together to enable detection of:

  • High & Low instant speed enforcement
  • Anticipated speed tracking and measurement
  • Different speed limits enforcement per lane and per vehicle category
  • Secondary speed measurement for post analysis
  • Forbidden and authorized lanes monitoring
  • Illegal lane crossing detection
  • Illegal overtaking control, even for motorcycles
  • Tailgating monitoring
  • Live video and video file for an additional evidence of the offense
  • Non-intrusive red-light crossing detection associated with speed-on-red and speed-on-green measurements
  • Smart turn-left or turn-right monitoring
  • Stop bar crossing detection
  • Not wearing of seat belts
  • Use of mobile devices while driving
  • Road traffic statistics collection

System is capable of tracking 32 vehicles over maximum 8 lanes, over 200 meters, during day and night. So a very capable system to detect traffic violations, regardless whether made consciously or not.

I’m not sure I like this idea for Taiwan or hope it never comes. On the one hand, yes please. Would improve the roads or at least bring in a heck of a lot of money because of the constant stream of violators. On the other hand, no thank you — gives too much control to those monitoring, which, in places like China, is terrifying, and I would not want that here.

No thanks. If you fart or pick your nose, that camera will be ready to mail a fine to you.
Much too big brother for me
