Just tried to drive onto highway 3 at Xindian (edit going South) and cars must have three occupants to use Highway 3. Police checking every car.
Traffic was already backed up a few km before getting on.
We only have two in the car… New plan in works.
Wow, to head south? Or towards Highway 5? I saw alerts that cars with <3 people had to get on the highway before 7am, and it didn’t specify which highway… I just assumed it was Hwy 5, as per usual.
Yes and traffic was already stopped not moving on the highway going north towards 5.
That sucks. Sorry. We started out from Taipei at 4am… it was worth it. In Pingtung already! Hope you get where you need to go…

A few years ago coming back from Hualien they had this going on. I pulled up by myself and the guy looked at me, didn’t ask if I could speak Mandarin, then just yelled to the guys a little further up in Taiwanese, “something, something, adoga.” They just waved me on. Apparently couldn’t be bothered trying to explain it to me.
The highway was nice and empty!
