Trans-Pacific Express f/o cable

Verizon Communications; KT Corp., China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom and Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom started, and were joined by this year by AT&T and NTT, in a new trans-Pac fiberoptic cable system. 5 Tbps design was completed yesterday! See graphic

The outlook for lower trans-Pac latency on the rock just improved. Techies will be moving to Danshui and naming their scooters Tera.

Interesting political dimensions too, with Chunghwa teaming with THREE buddies across the Strait, and the bypass of Japan (and NTT still bought in).

Maybe you should’ve read the the full story…
They will hook up Japan next year and this is supposedly mostly for voice traffic, not data

OK. Bypass of Japan until next year.
