Anybody know a company in Taipei where I can transfer old VHS tapes to a digital format? I found old VHS tapes and I am trying to archive them. Many thanks.

VCR, Capture card for PC, OBS.
Easy to do, low investment costs.
Many thanks. I donât want to get an extra electronic machineâŚthereâs too much stuff in my place. I also got rid of the VCR before I found these old tapes.

Well, you could just simply temporarily attain a VCR for this purpose and then get rid of it.
The recording module is nothing more than a small USB dongle as well. If you can find a used one for dirt then itâll work. Either that or I get set up and you can pay me for my time. I donât mind makin an extra dollar here or there.
Thanks Marco! Iâll PM you.

ironlady:
Letâs say you arrive on the MRT. Get off the MRT and take the exit that puts you out onto Chunghsiao E. Rd. to the east of Hsinsheng S. Road, on the north side of Chunghsiao. When you get out of the MRT entrance, youâll see a wall (think itâs a school). Turn right (that is, walk back toward Hsinsheng) and youâll come to a smallish alley on the left that leads into the market area. On the right as you walk up this alley is a large building, I think itâs the Chunghsin Textiles building or something like that. Anyway, walk into this alley (usually itâs just parking and cars coming out from having parked there). When you get to the next âintersectionâ (kind of like a T shape) youâll see a small alley (really narrow and kind of dark) going into the market area. Go in there, youâll walk through shops on both sides and finally come out on a larger cross-street. Turn right and take the next alley on your left. Youâll pass several stores selling CDs and offering transfer; go to the last one on the left, thatâs where I had my stuff done. The earlier stores will quote you like NT$500 per hour â thatâs ridiculous. The key thing to tell them (and youâre NOT hearing this from me) is that youâre not in a hurry, they can stick the tapes on their machine whenever it suits them and take up to a month. The price should magically drop when you propose this if you have any negotiating skills whatsoever. I got like 12 hours of tapes transferred and I think it was like NT$1000 or so. Canât remember exactly but this was a couple of months back, no more. This was for transfer to VCD, not DVD (DVD costs more, apparently). They also offer a service to remove mold from older VCR tapes and then transfer them (some of mine were really old and could not be saved, but generally they did a good job with reclaiming some that I would have thought were long gone.)
Remember what it was like before Google Maps?

I dont have any DV equipment here unfortunately. Sorry. VHS is easy because I can simply get a used VCR off Ruten for nothing now that i have a fresh account clear of that Racistâs negative feedback.

If you have equipment to read DV or miniDV tapes. Then we could get something going.
Only my old camera. But itâs pretty rickety.
