Transport from hsinchu to taipei for new year

Hi all!
Could anyone help me with some info on how to get from Hsinchu to Taipei on new years eve, besides the HSR. Decided at the last minute that we wanted to go to Taipei and ofcourse now tickets are sold out! I’ve been told you can get private taxi’s for around 1000NT - but I don’t know where to find these! I’ve checked tealit.com and Taiwanted.com. any advice would be much appreciated!!

The regular trains take about twice as long. But, still, that’s only 70 minutes on the fastest express train; and there’s more than one of those per hour. (If there are no reserved seats left, you can stand on the regular trains.) And if you’re going from downtown you won’t have to spend time getting out to the HSR station.

And there should be lots of buses as well. But I don’t know anything about taking those from Xinzhu.

trains will likely be full. buses will be stuck on the highway. my advice go to the train station and look for people to share a taxi with.

The, ehem, “private taxis” are guys hanging around the train/bus stations in old beaten cars. Yep, up to 1000 nts or more, but you can schedule them back from Taipei Main Station, too.
