Travel Agent who does student fares

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a travel agent that does good value flights and offers ISIC student discounts.

Basically, we want to go to Japan for 7-9 days in July/Aug and home via either Korea or Thailand (to Germany) in late August and need a Thai or Korean airline that allows stopovers.

Any ideas appreciated, I’m Taipei based.

Anyone???

Wow… Sounds like a FUN way to go!

As a 12 year travel agent and an 8 year airline employee, I don’t know of a single airline who offers “student” fares. Back in the beginning of my career, there were standby fares that appealed to students with flexible schedules, but those disappeared a long time ago.

There are travel agents in the US who specialize in the student market, but name escapes me at the moment. I don’t think it means that there are “student” rates, although some hotels and tour companies might offer special rates to students. Your best bet is to shop. Shop online and shop travel agents. There are some threads with several recommendations for travel agents Forumosans have used before.

Ironically, as far as hotels in the US, not that the US is your destination, offered better discounts to AAA members than to travel agents. Just shop every angle you can think of.

Thai Airways = Thai. Korean Airlines and Asiana = Korean. Both should allow stopovers at their hubs/gateways if the routing makes sense; that is their hub is on the way to your destination. Neither Korea nor Thailand are on the way from Taiwan to Japan, so it’s not likely to qualify as a “stopover” but a “circle trip”, which takes 1/2 of the best round-trip fare on each leg.

Thanks Craig. I think it’s the travel agent that offers student discount, not the airlines. It was agents who can do ISIC discounts I was interested in and such things certainly still exist.

We’re going to Korea en route to Germany, not Japan, so that’s not an issue.

Yup, I will be shopping around whatever, but it’s not really feasible to buy a stopover ticket on-line and, unlike the UK where there are travel agents on every high street, I don’t come across that many here. Actually, apart from one I passed in Tianmu, I don’t know any!

So anyone?? Travel agent recommendations??

My point is that vendors offer lots of discounts. In my experience, aside from hostel-style accommodations or some group arrangements, there isn’t a “student discount”. The arrangement you are talking about is a travel agent who is kicking back some of their commission, and they might do it for students, senior citizens, veterans, AAA members or about any group of people whose business they are seeking. You would be better served to broaden your search and just look for the cheapest price.

You can in fact do itineraries online that have stopovers. There are usually options for one-way, round-trip and multi-stop. Choose multi-stop.

As for travel agent recommendations, I did a search here using the key words “travel agent” and found a 17 page thread that includes recommendations from forum members. You can find the thread at:
