Traveling to Taiwan with 7 months pregnant gf

Hello,

Can anybody tell me if there are any regulations for entering Taiwan with my pregnant gf? We know all the regulations concerning our flights but we’re not sure if we’re missing anything.
She will be 26 weeks upon arrival and 28 when we leave Taiwan.
Additional but very important question: What if something happens and the baby decides to come early…any recommendations?
We will be staying in Kaohsiung most of the time and we know hospitals there + a friend of ours is a doctor in a good hospital but any help/pointers are welcome!

Thanks in advance! ( We’ll be arriving June 22nd 2014)

We entered Taiwan at the same time (7 mths), and no-one raised an eyebrow. Wife is Taiwan national.

Unborn babies need no visa. Relax.

Well, here’s one thing: If it’s your girlfriend and not your wife, you would have a “minor” problem if the baby came earlier, since you’re not legally married.

In Taiwan, they only write the name of the father on the birth certificate if the parents are legally married, even if both parents claim that the man is indeed the baby’s father! I know this because we had to rush our marriage paperwork here in Taiwan because of that (since the mother was taiwanese, she had to be married acording to the taiwanese law). Not having my name in the birth certificate would have been bad, since requesting her foreign passport would had been an ordeal.

I don’t think this is entirely correct. It is true that the father is not listed on the birth certificate if the couple is not married. However, the father can easily recognize the child (renling) later and be able to deal with the ensuing paperwork. Not sure what would happen with two non-Taiwan nationals though.

Ok Thanks for the answers!

Eh, guy, how about insurance? Who’s gonna pay for the delivery? OP has not said if GF is Taiwanese. Without NHI, it might be cheaper than most parts of the West, but still, ouch!

A piece of advice: get a doctor certificate saying she is safe to fly. Most airlines would not allow you to fly past 28 weeks pregnant.
