I got a bird at Jake’s Country Kitchen this year for Thanksgiving and it was AMAZING!. Perfectly done, and it came with stuffing and gravy. I beleive it was 2300 and it fed 6 of us, plus I had enough leftovers for 6 other meals, so I’m guessing it would feed about 8-10 people at Christmas. They also had a bigger bird. Their phone number is 02 2871-5289 or 2872-6295.
Wellman’s also does “phone orders”, which I’ve never done, but they have everything there and could probably get you a bird. Mr. Wu is the manager and the number is 28718446 28714454
[quote=“xtrain”]any uncooked birds spotted at any of the costcos yet? would love to hear about it, so an unnecessary trip from Taoyuan is avoided.

why yes, xtrain. i was in costco just this past weekend, and there were a number of birds in the deep freezers there. about $750, if i’m not mistaken. so feel free to head out and pick one up before they’re all gone.
also, they are taking orders for precooked birds. write your name down, and someone will get back to you (or so they say).
merry hoho …
It’s that time of year again. Does anyone know who is selling prepared turkey dinners this year? Jason’s was doing them last year and Post Home also. But I think Post Home is gone now that Alleycat’s has opened shop there. I need to arrange a turkey meal for several people on Thanksgiving Day and am hoping some of you can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any advice.
p.s. mods, I thought there was a thread for this topic last year. I did a search but nothing came up. Perhaps you can find it and combine these.
Florida Bakery usually has some. I think they have a Web site set up with this info.
The Breeze Supermarket also had some last year, either for Thanksgiving or Christmas (or both), but they had to be ordered in advance.
And Sababa had some type of set meal last year (with a turkey–for takeaway), if I’m not mistaken.
Let us know what you find out.
And remember that in the Costco thread it now mentions that pumpkin pie is available there.
Have a great meal.

There’s a Turkey Finder thread in the Food Forum which covers both uncooked and cooked birds. Normally you want to search Food, not WCIF, for food items; I’ll be merging this with the existing thread. Jason’s and Jake’s Country Kitchen were on the list for cooked turkeys, and Costco was doing them if ordered in advance, acc. to the posters there. No idea whether any of these still provide them.
Nov. 14, 2007 EDIT: I asked the guys behind the meat counter at the Neihu Costco this week, and they said they didn’t have any idea about placing orders for cooked turkeys, so I imagine that means they don’t do them.
I recall my local RT Mart here in Taichung having frozen turkeys imported from the States last year around the weeks leading up to Christmas. I’ve ordered turkey packages from some restaurants the last 2 years and really haven’t been to impressed with the quality of the food for the price paid. I’ll ask the butcher if they expect to get some turkeys anytime soon. If so, I’ll be sure to post back here.
Haven’t tried them, but to anyone interested, I hear that La Terrasse sells a pretty good turkey package.
I saw Jason’s at Taipei 101 selling turkey dinners now. I had time just for a quick scan of the sign, and from my memory: Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, tea, and a couple of other items I forgot. Something about frozen/free delivery (don’t know what conditions may apply). Order 5 days in advance, starting now and into December.
They’re also giving out $100 vouchers for every $400 you spend, for month of November.
The new Costco in Taichung has frozen 12 pound turkeys for just under 1000nt, for anyone that wants to do their own. I think you’d need a western oven though. Looked too big for my countertop oven. Didn’t think to ask if they were doing prepared turkeys.
thomasmeat.com.tw/news.htm has turkeys on sale now. See also
thomasmeat.com.tw/eng.htm
This was posted at page two. Directions are on the website. They have smoked turkeys that are nicely done and cut in half so warming 1/2 in your toaster style oven is no problem. They also have uncooked birds. I didn’t check the price of the uncooked ones but the smoked ones, ready to warm and eat were about 1100 NT. Expensive for a bird but better than some places. Thomas meats also has other western cuts in their meat counter and a few western canned food items on the shelves. Friendly folks.
EDIT: I just checked their website for the first time this year. Seems like the price mentioned above may have been changed.
Just wanted to post my turkey results in case anyone wants to get one for Christmas. After researching all the places that sell prepared turkeys I decided on Florida Bakery as they had the best deal and the largest turkey I could get. This was for a school project so I had a big group.
From Florida Bakery I got an 18 pound turkey without stuffing for NT$3,280. They delivered it for NT$380. It arrived on time in a box and wrapped in foil inside. I didn’t carve it for about another hour and it was still hot when I opened it. I opted for the no stuffing deal as it saved almost NT$1,000 and I was on a budget so I was able to buy other side dishes with that money.
The turkey came with 4 bottles of gravy and a carving knife that worked okay but I was glad I brought a meat cleaver to separate the joints of the wings and legs, though most of the meat carved easily and even fell off the bone at times. I only tasted a couple of bites as I wanted to save as much as I could for my students but the dark meat was delicious while the white meat was good but a tad on the dry side. My students, some who had never eaten turkey before, all said it was very good. It fed 14 (college) students and had enough left over for 5 more kids to sample and snack from. I would definitely use them again. They also offer smaller turkeys on their web site:
They gave me a contact there who speaks English so if anyone needs that just post here and I will find it. She was very helpful.
On a side note, if anyone is challenged as I was to make a Thanksgiving meal with only a microwave, here is what I did for side dishes: baked potatoes in the microwave (wash, poke holes with a fork and wrap in a paper towel and nuke on high for about 3 minutes each side), frozen vegetables nuked in the microwave, rolls, butter, fruit cocktail and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. All but the last item I got from Costco. They have whipped cream but only in a two can package. I got a single can at Jason’s ($NT135). With a budget of NT$5,000 I brought it in at NT$4,995 for the food and paid for the delivery out of another fund.
Merry Christmas y’all.
can anyone in taipei confirm that costco has frozen/uncooked turkeys yet? and an approximate price.
we’re looking to head out by friday, and i’m trying to decide between costco and thomas meats for a bird.
Found another place that is selling prepared turkeys and just thought I would add it on here as I don’t remember anyone listing this one yet.
Dean & Deluca at the Breeze Center is offering hickory smoked whole turkeys or roasted whole turkeys for NT$3,000. The brochure says 6kg and feeds 8-10 people.
They also have a few other items you can pre-order if you are not into turkey: Roasted leg of lamb with rosemary, roasted rib-eye steak, pork knuckle, roasted chicken and roasted honey ham plus a bunch of other cakes and desserts.
I got the brochure on the back counter where they sell other prepared food. I think the offer is good until Christmas.
