TW tv shows?

Due to my wife now being in her Sitting Period - i thought it would be a good idea to take some time off from work and stay at home and help her with the baby, household chores etc…

This has also given me time to catch up on daytime TW TV shows. What a thrill that is.

One question that has been nagging me for a while and these last few days have confirmed it - why is it, that the majority of TW and mainland shows see to be period shows - ie, set in an earlier, and i guess, a classical time frame. This is not just limited to the TV shows as even when prowling the night markets for locally made movies, there seems to be an abundance of period movies and not that many that are set in current times.

There are the obvious exceptions but it just seems to me that that majority of locally, and mainland made shows/movies are not set in current times.

Any theories on this?

Thanks

easier to duck the question of “is taiwan independent?” , and still get big sales on both sides of the strait.

you haven’t been watching enough TW TV then, there are heaps of soaps set in the modern era. i am not an expert, tho. that would be mind-numbing…

When I was a kid in the U.S. it seemed every other TV show was a western. Not so different.

The last three English movies I saw were period peices. The two about magic and Miss Potter.
