Please dispell or confirm this rumor (with source please.)
I heard recently that a foreign English teacher can have TWO schools on their ARC. Hmm, that would be nice.
D
It’s true.
It’s true. My husband works for Universal English and they have stated that fact.
Do you get 2 ARC cards? How does this work.
Go to the second school. They submit the documents and add their name to your ARC. You don’t get two cards, though. It’s all on one.
Have they actually helped him do it though? I assume that they add the name of the second school to the back of your ARC. Is this what has happened in your husbands case?
Wouldn’t your first school have to agree to it? I can’t see many buxibans or other schools doing that.
Nope, according to the rules the first school doesn’t have to agree to it. My friend is in the process of doing just that.
My husband says the school advised him it can be done. He hasn’t done it so I don’t know if the second school is added to the back of the ARC. As surfbunny is in the process perhaps she’ll respond and let you know.
How about the cost, paperwork and more. Another medical test?
D
You have to do another medical. I’m not sure about cost, I think it’s the same as the first. I believe the forms as the same forms as if you were applying for a first ARC.
Oh, but then there is your employment contract which may have a clause that forbids you from accepting any other form of employment. If you sign this contract you will be bound to the conditions of that contract. So, by adding another school to your ARC you have broken your employment contract and this may result in your work permit being revoked and a ban from entering Taiwan.
What you “can” and “cannot” do does not excuse you from the obligations in your contract.
That being said, I personally feel that adding another school is a great idea.
Ha ha ha! Doesn’t everyone know that in Taiwan teacher’s contracts are just so much toilet paper?
Yeah, I know. It happens “every day”.
Bitchin’ and whinin’ laobans just hate the new leniency shown to the foreign teachers. Even the westerners parading around as “laobans” via their Taiwanese partners are shaking in their worn out sandals.
Violation of a contract indeed!
I talked with a guy in the new department that now handles foreigner work stuff. He states that foreigners can work at two jobs but each must have their own ARC. You cannot piggyback on the first one. That what he said. fwiw
According to who? The school, the MOE, the police, Labour Affairs? None of them have any idea what the riules and laws are, interpret them differently, and ignore them at will.
Sod the ‘laws’. Try it. If it works then you can. If it doesn’t you can’t.
Brian
I talked with Mr. Lin from the 勞委會. Of course, it might be his own interpretation. We all know the laws don’t exist until they are enforced, usually selectively.
