Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis Vaccinations

I’m coming over the 17th. I’m finding conflicting information on the necessity for Typhoid and Japanese Encephalitis vaccinations. Did you guys get them? Are they necessary? I plan to eat food from street vendors in Kaohsiung. Is there a risk of Typhoid with this?

I guess you’re already here - welcome to Taiwan!
I did not get the Japanese Encephalitis shot, because the chances of contracting it seem quite low and the vaccine was expensive. However, if you do contract it you will probably die, so… your choice. I did get the typhoid vaccine, as well as MMR, Hep A, and tetanus - although I was travelling to rural areas in Mexico before I came here, so that affected my decision too. If you plan on indulging in street food, you’re more likely to get food poisoning than anything else, largely from the poor food handling. Remember, that fresh-looking seafood and chicken has been sitting out in the baking hot sun all day before you get to it in the evening! Choose wisely.
