I prepared this yesterday as an example of a days routine. Quite suprised what a guts I am. Thought it might be worth sharing for those of us here who struggle with weight
Me yesterday.
Exercise.
30 minutes brisk walk in Taipei while waiting for the MOFA line to go down…approx 250 calories
30 minute bike ride at good pace 5pm…approx 325 calories
Food, all approx’
Breakfast…muesli, 4 fruits and soy milk (big bowl, big breakfast) 800 calories.
Nothing at all inbetween other than water.
Lunch…Carnegies lamb shank with a few fries and 1 slice bread and no soup …750 calories
Lamb shank was fantastic, fries are there to just enjoy a few. Most of the fries go back to the kitchen.
Potato, no way. If I’m going to have calories it may as well be a few lovely fries.
Lunch…sweet tea drink… 120 calories
Afternoon. Starbucks caramel frappachino… 430 calories
Finished the other half of knickers small choc frap… 200 calories
Dinner
Boddingtons beer… 260 calories
Leafy salad with a few croutons and no dressing just some balsamic vinegar… 300 calories
1 small dinner roll from Far Eastern bakery… 150 calories
Desert
1/2 small guava 50
some grapes 30
1/2 small Danish pastry from Far Eastern. 175
3 mint patties fom Costco 100
Total around 3300 calories. I suspect yesterday was a slight weight gain day even with the exercise. I love food as I’ve mentioned and although I’d not normally have added it all up I already knew today would have to be a lighter day food wise.
So, if I’d not exercised yesterday and continued yesterdays diet for a week I’d be working on a base metabolism of say 2500 calories and over a week would have a 5600 calorie or 3/4kg wieght gain. A year later I’d be some 40kg heavier (again).
you sure about the amount of calories you say you’re burning? I find it hard to beleive a 30 minute brisk walk burns 250… i burn about that after a run on the treadmill at the gym in 30 minutes. and that’s on the “hill” setting. Brisk walking doesn’t burn as many calories as one might think…
and a salad with no dressing but a few crutons certainly wouldn’t add up to 300 calories either.

Hi Bushibanned. I’ve put approx’ all over that.
However, I’ll take 50 calories out of the walk if it will make you feel better.
87kg male with reasonable muscle mass walking at a very inefficient fast pace just a little before you’d break into a jog. I think it is close.
Re salad. I was actually thinking higher because I tend to tip way too many croutons on. Those dried little buggers don’t take too many to make a thick slice of bread at 90 calories. I suspect my approx’ would go the other way on this one if pushed…say 350 calories.
I don’t get too anal on the additions. I have a good rough out of what is going on.
Regarding the treadmill. I’d not get too excited about what it tells you if it does not know sex, weight, muscle mass and age. I have it from reliable sources that some of the exercise equipment computer programmers don’t have a clue.
You’re better off using regular lowfat or nonfat milk than soy milk (unless you’re lactose intolerant). Soy doesn’t do men any favours as it raises estrogen levels.
A little now and then won’t hurt ya but try not to make it a regular item in your diet.

I’ve heard this before and sorry but it is a load of rubbish. I’m 48 years old and still shag up to the required number of times a day when required as long as the number does not exceed 4.
There’s a reason besides genetics why we white guys are furry furrriners…lack of plant estrogens= soy in our diets. I’m gonna look for that study that shows why Asian men have statistically lower testosterone levels in Asia yet higher levels for ABC’s CBC’s etc with different diets.

Maybe if I layed off the soy it would be 5.[/quote]
Sorry, but it’s not a matter of whether you’ve “heard” it before or not but instead that it’s a scientific fact.
You’re probably doing well in spite of the soy milk - not because of it. Soy milk DOES raise estrogen levels - it’s been proved and it’s not “a load of rubbish”.
